Re: New Tacoma Capacity
hemi-is for the hemisperical combustion chamber-which just about every car has now.
I heard at the last training we had that Toyota will come out with a deisel and word is even a deisel electric hybrid by 2010. I manage Toyota dealership in michigan. |

The new Chrysler "Hemi" has the spark plug on the top of the chamber, but with more of a flat piston. Most modern DOHC motors have been built this way for a long time. Someone that actually knows what they're talking about can go ahead and correct me here if I'm wrong. |

Re: New Tacoma Capacity
Even with your answer how does it make a Toyota truck engine MORE of a Hemi than a new Chrysler Hemi?
The Toyota truck engine is a DOHC with 4 valves/cylinder. Shares nothing in common with an original Hemi other than a somewhat semi hemispherical combustion chamber. The new Chrysler Hemi, like the original, is a pushrod 2 valve per cylinder. It also still features a semi-hemispherical chamber. It does have two spark plugs/cylinder, where the original only had one. The original also didn't have the multi-displacement system. Also like the original, it produces 1hp/ci. The Toyota truck engine doesn't. ![]() Really, while the new Hemi isn't exactly like the Hemi of old, they did use a lot of what they learned with the original into the new. |

Re: New Tacoma Capacity
What I should have said is that the Toyota is as much of a hemi as a "hemi", not more. Still, neither of them have the big domed pistons of the original Hemis. My point was that the technology in the "Hemi" is pretty much commonplace, they're just getting a lot of use out of the "Hemi" brand.
Edit by Jules: "Say "Hemi" again mutha****a I dare you." |

My facts were to refute the claim of a Toyota truck engine being more of a "HEMI" than the new Chrysler Hemi engine. But since you want to split hairs, you are technically wrong. Chrysler actually called the engine the "Double Rocker", due to the fact that they went with a two vavle/pushrod design rather than an overhead setup. The nickname "HEMI" was given by enthusiasts, and it wasn't until the elephant engine that Chrysler decided to adopt the name and trademark it. Many engines back then used a hemispherical head, including Chrysler WWII aircraft engines. So I go back to my facts. The new Chrysler engine IS a FAR more accurate representation of the original Chrysler "HEMI" engine than any Toyota engine. And yes, it has a BUNCH to do with using two valves and pushrods. |

Sure, talk marketshare. In '05 Toyota was, what ~15% overall? A whole one percent over Daimler-Chrysler? Sweet. Way to go. Toyota's model lineup is much larger, yet they can only eek out a slim margin. I guess when that whole lineup is a complete snooze-fest that's what happens. Chrysler hasn't closed a plant in a few years now. They are doing far better than the other union-choked companies. If they could ever get away from the union workers they would be far better off. That's Toyota's only real advantage. Boring cars with boring specs built without union bullshit overhead, but still overpriced. Sheeple still buy them up in droves because they think they are actually better cars. How's that new Prius recall going? No, not the last one, the recent one? |

I suggest anger management classes-It speaks volumes of your true intelligence when you resort to name calling-I dont want to hijack this thread anymore than it already has been. We can have a conversation regarding our differing views at another time on another thread maybe or in person.
Now back to your regularly scheduled program |

Re: New Tacoma Capacity
I vote for anger management too... But I agree Chrysler is doing exceptionally well: unlike the two other US automakers; they're making product that people want to have. They've got phenomenal guys working in the styling department - in contrast to GM who has some old fogies trying to bore you to death.
BTW: The "5.7L V8 HEMI" isn't a Hemi itself. That thing got a Hemi? No, not really - News - Automobile Magazine |
