The company I work for right now uses International & in the last couple years been moving over to Sterling (Ford) with Mercedes motors......they have the worst loud hum above a certain RPM http://www.sterlingtrucks.com/P.asp?...ion&Line=ALine
it was a dream of mine back in high school to own a Peterbilt with 8000 lights and drive it cross country.

I also like the KW but haven't driven either. I will say Macks are atleast a step above Freightcrappers, not by a hell of a lot but noticeably better. I have to say my favorite truck that I've driven was a Sterling. But I did only drive them for very short distances (friend let me drive his work truck one time and I drove one on a job driving test thing).

edit; after reading Hammers post I was reminded of how much I wanna drive one of them Volvos (yeah I know that sounds weird doesn't it). And the new ones are some nice looking trucks.

...
Did part of that dream entail touring the national pro arm-wrestling circuit?

This thread wins the prize for "most creative use of derogatory pet names for a truck manufacturer".

I never really wanted to go "Over the Top"
you also have to remember I'm one of the scrawniest people here (5"4' 118lbs wet) so I wouldn't have even won the women's competition (even taking away the huge lumberjack ladies)

Believe what you want, all of Freightliner's nicknames were made the hard way: They were earned . . .

Maybe it's a different company. Maybe I should just do a search.

EDIT: Yep, they're the ones. They were bought by Daimler-Benz in '81. I guess that's why they went in the sh1tter.
Their older stuff was co-owned by White and it was reasonably respectable, but since the early 80s, they have made the worst crap on the road and even with all the incentives they now have nothing but market share (and it has cost them billions to buy it).

Mine did not have it as it was too old but the new ones have air ride on the steer axle as well. Just before I left the trucking industry My boos had me go down to the Volve dealer and order a new truck about 3 weeks later I accepted the job I have now. Somebody is in a nice rig, 770 full air ride built in microwave, generator, upper bunk with study underneath. The passenger will be pissed though, Nikki did not like air ride seats.

By the way Volvo and Mack are one in the same now.

Re: abtech, time to retire the PITBIKE?

well the Macks I've driven are a few years old (CH600 and Vision). They weren't awful but not terribly good either. Both lacked a lot of needed power (and I only hauled around 15k lbs of cardboard in a 53' foot trailer) and the suspensions were ok.

By the way Nikki looks like an awesome dog.

If something ever happens to her, they will have to bury me with her. She was gaining alot of weight in the truck, in that pic she was around 29 to 31 lbs. She is down to around 22 to 24lbs now.
