Here is an update on the difference between the Ancra Originals and the Red Snapper tie downs as per Dan from Ancra. Hopefully this will be helpful for some.
Paul, Thank you for your interest in the Ancra Products for motorcycle enthusiasts. For the best assurance of your bikes securement to the trailer or vehicle, it is recommended that you use (2) tiedowns in the front of the bike and (2) tiedowns at the rear end also. The choice of which Ancra tiedown style to use is one of personal preference and depends on how your transporter is set-up. The two styles you mention, our Originals and the Red Snapper, are both excellent products. They are the same product design; with the exception that the Red Snapper gains the benefit of a “closed” snap hook on the lower section that will prevent the strap from slipping off of any secure floor ring attachment. This is helpful when you are loading the motorcycle by yourself because you can set the snap hook into the transporter attachment ring and it will not fall out while you work on attaching the upper hook to the handlebar. Also, if you were ever to drive over a large hole or bump in the road, the force can compress the motorcycle suspension and the tiedown may lose some tension for a moment. With the snap hook system the tiedown will remain attached to the transporter ring attachment and maintain the connection between the motorcycle and transport vehicle. The Soft Hooks are another very popular product to consider. These are used with tiedowns and allow you to keep the tiedown hardware away from the body of your motorcycle. They can be attached to the frame, triple-clamp, or handlebars and will extend outward to provide a webbed-loop to connect with the tiedown for tensioning. They are very popular with custom bike builders and owners of bikes with fairings and shrouds. I hope this information assists you in setting up your bike and transporter. We also recommend that you visit your local motorcycle dealer(s) and ask them to show you our products and how best to use them for your particular vehicle.
