Nissan Frontier Do I have a Deal?

As most of you know from Grattan....

I love Nissan, have 3 Nissans in the Garage....

I have a 97 Nissan Hardbody.... pickup with 85,000

I have been wheeling and dealing.

03 Frontier

20,000 miles on it
4x4
Cruise Control
Stereo with Cd Player
Crew Cab
Air
Etc...

It is rated to Tow 5000 lbs with a Class III hitch on it and I am being honest and saying about 3400

Would this be right for a 6x10 with two bikes? Not long trips, just in the midwest?

$17,500 I got them down to on the truck

I really whined and cried about the trade in and after 18 offers and I mean 18 I have them at $4000 on the trade in...

Now remember 85,000 Miles and 8 years old.... actually 9 because the 97s were the left over 96s while they were making the new style

thanks for your opinions fellas... going to give the nod or shake Wednesday

Re: Nissan Frontier Do I have a Deal?

trailer ~ 1000lbs
each bike ~ 500lbs
tools, gear, cooler etc 500lbs
trailer mods 1-200 lbs

I guessed high on most numbers there and come up with 2700lbs, now if either bike is a touring bike or Harley add 300 lbs more. Seems you got the margin. Depends on engine then

Re: Nissan Frontier Do I have a Deal?

Don't do it. Get a full size truck. That Frontier will suck your pockets dry with the gas you'll be putting into it. The Frontier and the Ranger are pretty close to engine specs, I was getting 10-12mpg pulling one bike in a 5x10(?) enclosed trailer. Wait a few months 'til you can get something full size. Trust me...

EDIT: I looked long and hard at the Frontier before deciding on the Ranger, so I've done my research.

First of all I do not listen to someone that does not have me on his must go to Grattan list even it is for the people that did not go last year.

But, the reason why I am looking at compact/midsize is because I do not really want a full size. I am more interested in a small to work and back truck, that I can also use 4 times a year to haul something.

and remember I had a 2.4 liter nissan that was a pig with a trailer.... I know

I want something, my wife is comfortable driving, something that takes up little room in my garage (even though my garage is 42x32 )

I also want something that I can use for an add on driveway plow truck and they get rave reviews for that

I have a full size truck for plowing..... an 85 Ford F 250 where plywood is my floorboard.

By the way .... plowed this weekend 47 hours straight (except the 2 hour nap in the parking lot at the hospital) do not tell my employer by the way....

Let's just say I am putting the 20 % down on the truck just from this weekends work!!!

Re: Nissan Frontier Do I have a Deal?

And what bigger truck will get better milage??? My Tundra averaged 13-14 mpg to and from Grattan, usualy around 17-18 highway towing nothing. Everyone I know with full size Ford/chevy with 5.something smallblocks get the same milage. I cant help you with the price of the truck, but it will be fine for pulling a 6x10 with 2 bikes in it. My '02 Tacoma with V6 did fine with my 750lb trailer and a 1800 pound Bridgeport mill.

There's more I'd like on there, but there's a 250 character limit

I didn't say they'd get better, but they'd at least get the same. I think it's well worth it. With his other reasons, it makes sense now. :iduno:

Re: Nissan Frontier Do I have a Deal?

Well here we go.....

Bought The Truck..... hate signing on the dotted line, but did.

03 21,000 miles on it

4x4.... with the Off Road Tow Package, Bigger Tranny Cooler, Locking Rear Diff, Heavier Springs.

Power all, windows, locks, mirrors, defroster in the rear

Short Bed.... so a trailer is a must.....

In awesome shape, not a scratch to its name

got them down to 17,500 even on the truck

gave me on my 97 nissan pickup...... 4200 (which is a joke, means that I got the truck for less.)

Cause KBB (kelly blue book) puts it at 2600

So I am glad, it is solid, and it will not have an alternator that takes a crap on me.... knock on wood.

Re: Nissan Frontier Do I have a Deal?

I have a 03 Frontier Crew Cab long bed. I've carrier a bike in the bed and 2 on a trailer a couple of times and I'm going to do it again in 3 days. It'll do it and be just fine.
