Are your front straps at right angles to the bike?
Even with the chock all the way to the front, you still have some forward area. The bars are behind the front wheel.

Why not just buy an R1? It's the pefect bike for towing. Needs no chocks or tie downs. It just stands on its own.

Nope, they are angled well ahead of the forks...

My R1 had an integrated Garmin with a seek function....I just plugged in the coords, and it was waiting for me when I go there...

Not enough IMHO, but I've dropped two bikes so far.

Study how a pair of vise grips work and you will see why it works better with a steeper tie down angle...

Re: 6X12 and 7X14 pics please.

Yeah, I'd say following the angle of the forks is a good angle to use. (But, mine have usually been closer to the red line. See pics on page 2 or 3 of this thread.)

The angle on my straps is more like the red line...

With the exception of CP straps, thats How I STARTED tying the bikes down. I still use about the same angle in front, and now use the opposite angle in back tied to the rear subframe with soft ties.

Re: 6X12 and 7X14 pics please.

Mine is probably somewhere in between the two...but here's something to think about if you are using the CD....

In the picture you have drawn, the red boomer will require about 10% greater tension to generate the same amount of suspension compression, and it just gets worse the shallower you go...

Correct, and suspension compression is good because if the bike compresses while in the choc in transit, the strap can loosen due to shock-strain.

That is an argument against a shallower angle...not for it...
