I live in a condo and therefore any trailer would be stored in a praking lot. What are the tips/tricks to keep someone from attaching it to their truck and bolting?

Hmm,

Lock the coupler closed...

Park the trailer so the tongue is 'into' the parking spot and chain the tongue that way to something secure...

Like, everything else, if someone wants it, they'll get it...

With State Farm, it was neither. I have a $5000 Trailer policy on mine. I think it runs less than $5/month.

Leave a spare ball locked in the tongue and get one of the round padlocks, the ones that are really hard to break. But like Conq said, if they really want it, they'll get it. the chaining it to something idea's pretty good too. Just don't get no flimsy chain.

Gorilla lock also makes a lockable unit that covers the part of the hitch that hooks over the ball.

I use a combination of a 25$ Master® lock that is a SS ball and funky plate-type device that secures itself inside the ball and is practically nonremovable without the key, or making the ball useless.

I also have an SS lock that I use on the ball clip (I think is what its called ,little piece on topside of the ball receiver on the trailer that moves up/down allowing you to mount/unmount the trailer from the ball).

Then there is homeowners policy for when its in my yard, and its regged under the same policy as my car, but im told that as long as its regged it is covered by whatever policy the (towing) vehicle has. HOWEVER - the items inside/on it are not covered, unless it was for work purposes - and in which case I would have to get a seperate policy but I never looked into that. A motion detector alarm and a new glock of your choosing were cheaper then then yearly policy for $10000 coverage (yearly) on the trailer.

The best form of security is like it is with bikes though - to never let it out of your sight if at all possible.

with my insurance, USAA, the trailer is covered my the home owners policy for the trailer itself - no extras - you must have proof of what was added. On the road, however the trailer is only covered if it gets in a wreck for damage to tohers property. I opened another policy for replacement of the tralier and the contents in case of wreck

I would suggest a good quality coupler lock, it slips over the coupler and depending on the model, some snap into place, others you stick an allen key through a hole and tighten it in place, then the key closes the hole. Do not rely on just a padlock on the top of the shackle thingy, its only 1/4 or 5/16' and it easly cut or beaten off. Just 3 weeks ago I had to remove a 1/4' shakle Masterlock off my trailer when the key was forgotten, it only took 4 blow of a hammer to pop it. Also, the make 'The Boot' for trailers that clamps around a wheel preventing it from being towed. Find a good sized Camping WOrkd or Trailer outlet for some decent security stuff, you wont find anything good at wally world.

I would add a wireless alarm with the trailer as a zone.

These work well, I've had my boat in front of my townhouse for 5 years. Now I need another one for my new enclosed trailer! I like the locks made for trailers/boats...most of the lock is covered and makes it almost impossible to cut the pin.

keep a portable air tank or small compressor in the house, and let the air out of the tires of the trailer, no one wants a trailer with flat tires..... friends do this all the time at moto-x races.... NEVER had a trailer stolen
