Oil sight glass removal

Have any of you gents removed the oil sight glass from the clutch side engine case half? I want to pull my engine case half off, strip it, and re-powder coat it and I see Honda has no part number for a replacement sight glass. So if I break the sight glass taking it out am I SOL or do you gents have an idea how to get it out w/out braking it or maybe a cross reference part number for a sight glass from another bike that will work in case I screw-up?

Thanks,
EPZ

Sorry, the question above is in regards to the oil sight glass in my 2001 CBR 929.

Thanks,

if you can't take it off then how would you put it back on when you break the old one? Whats the chances that you can chip away the powder coat off the glass once you're done? or maybe you can put some type of coating on the glass part that can allow the coating to not stick. I would bring the piece to the powder coat company to see what they suggest.

Re: Oil sight glass removal

MACI4LIFE, I have not pulled the engine cover off yet I’m just trying to get any information I can before I dig into something I cannot fix. Note; I have a buddy who re-powder coated the case halves on his ZXR 1100, he broke his sight glass removing it but unlike my CBR the Kawasaki has a replacement sight glass. As far as leaving the sight glass in and powder coating the assembly, I’m betting the sight glass will not take the 350 degrees F curing temp for the full 45 minutes.
