stretched ear lobes and helmets
My ear lobes are stretched to 0g and I'm having issues with taking off helmets. I'm searching for a full face helmet, and even with the ones that fit "just right" when all the way on, I still pull my plugs out of at the least, my right ear.
It doesn't hurt, it's really just a PITA. I was wondering what type of plugs, cylinders, horns, whatever, other riders with stretched ears are wearing without helmet issues. Or maybe it's just "technique"? If this continues to be my biggest issue riding.... I'm doin good! Thanks! |

Re: stretched ear lobes and helmets
You're lucky you haven't gotten hurt. I've heard some bloody stories about that sort of thing. It's why you're not supposed to wear anything like that when you're wearing the helmet so I'd say you've been pretty lucky so far that they pop out rather than trying to tear your ear apart.

really?? LOL It's never been an issue before as I was a passenger with a skid lid previously. I figured I had to ask somewhere!I actually decided to remove one piercing and I'm going to try silicone plugs in my lobes. Otherwise I will go without. Thanks for the input. |

Re: stretched ear lobes and helmets
sugar.fish- I have the same size earings in and i wear tunnels. they are chrome/metal (or whatever) with a flare on one end and an o-ring on the other...my helmet is slightly big on me and i never have any issues. it might help that its a off-brand, hand me down...
actually (i just went and put my helmet on to see how i do it...hehe), I grab the straps and pull out, smashing the pads down, making a small indent/passageway in the padding and just guide my earings through there. it doesn't take me any longer than when i just grab the helmet and throw it on without earrings...give it a try and let me know what you think haha. ...whatever you do...find a way to keep 'em in! |

Re: stretched ear lobes and helmets
Obviously you don't have body jewelery that gets cought up in lycra under garments when you ride. If it gets caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time you can't even through your leg over the seat to get off the bloody bike. You just have to sit there and wait untill the coast is clear to go unhook the little sucker.

Re: stretched ear lobes and helmets
Ok,each to his own,but I hear what youre saying.I wear a very thin balaclava, made espacially for bikers, similar to the ones the racing drivers use.I sometimes even wear it in the summer, makes no real difference. It should keep your ears flat and you can slip your helmet on and off no problem.
