Oh, and as for the rest of the post that I cut out. Overall, a very excellent post. For that. I was just about to give up hope that anyone would write anything rational in this thread after all the earlier childishness. I may not agree with everything everyone writes on here, but if it's rational and seems well thought-out I'll always listen to it and consider it. Thanks for restoring my faith.

Re: ICON helmets

Thanks guys I appreciate the responses.
My intent was only to show that an economical approach is usually the road 90% of riders have no choice in taking. But hey if you have the means for a $900 lid and it fits then rock the hell out of that thing.

Either way a $90 helmet thats poorly made will still give you more protection than no helmet at all. And I definately agree with the Best helmet worn is the one you put on every time.

Oh and Overall I still like Icon. and Arai.
Icons new Mechanica helmet looks cool as hell. I just dont like all of the Monster vents all over it. But hey to each his own.

Hadnt seen the article on Mladin yet. I was just reading through a race mag yesterday when I was thinking of this thread.
But like I said earlier Im by no means an authority, just an everyday guy .

Unfortunately it's not that simple. Not everyone has the same head shape. That's why Arai has made a name for itself selling helmets that come in different head shapes. For example, in any of the full-face Shoei helmets out there, if I put on one that should be my size, it creates a pressure point on my forehead. If I go up in size enough that the pressure point isn't there, then the entire rest of the helmet is way too loose.

On that note, I wonder how many people actually wear a properly fitting helmet....

Re: ICON helmets

The different head shape concept is a great one in terms of both comfort and safety. I certainly agree that just measuring your head and going mail order is not a good way to get a good fit. It might work, but as -Z- said you might get pressure points, or have a helmet that's too loose in other points.
I got my icon primarily because it fit my head shape very well. The fact that it cost me just under 300 after tax was an added bonus. I went in with 500 to spend on a helmet, I was looking at an Arai but they didn't have one that fit my head right, and they wouldn't get the different cheek pieces etc unless I knew what size i needed and ordered them. (from a business standpoint it makes sense I guess) So i got the icon, which I love.

Re: ICON helmets

Just because a helmet may cost more doesn't make it safer or necessarily protect your head any better. In the Motorcyclist helmet test a few years ago, the Z1R was found to be the safest helmet, and it's under $100.

I currently own Arai, Suomy, KBC and Icon helmets. They all have their pros and cons, but they all perform just fine while on my head.

All my Icon gear is still going strong. Even the first gen Ti-max gloves I got over 5 years ago still look as good as new. I own 4 of their jackets, loads of gloves and three pairs of their boots. Again, all still going strong and probably some of the most comfortable gear I've ever worn.

Re: ICON helmets

Icon helmets are great. But imho they are WAY to heavy. My first helmet was a ICON DFA and I loved it but then I got a shoei and the light weight feel is superb. I wish Icon could make them a little bit lighter so I could get the DFA 2 other than the weight of the ICON helmets I love ICON gear
