The 1000RR luggage thread - what are my options?
Ok, so i've been digging through everything i can think of and only found a few informative threads. What im looking for is something that could work as a "trip" hauler. Also interested in something that could suit as a daily commuter bag... but all the collapsable bags are either magnetic or require me to put on some BMW looking tank bra
What bags are the best? saddle/tank/second seat... who & what do you recommend? -Dana |

Re: The 1000RR luggage thread - what are my options?
Thats pretty nice - i like the added "case" on top of the tail
This was one of the tank bags i was told to take a look at from Bagster: Bagster - Equipped vehicles - HONDA CBR 1000 RR http://www.bagster.com/photosgalerie...0RR%20zoom.jpg The thing i dont like about it is the requirement to have the tank cover. The other fun option for a lot more space is the Tourmaster Cortech strapped bag: Tour Master Cortech Tribag Tank Bag - Motorcycle Superstore http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...s/OG/g1728.jpg Then theres the huge Ventura setup: fitments - Ventura - accessories for the touring motorcyclist http://www.ventura-bike.com/library/...ages/ho040.jpg //edit - wtf no img code? Re: The 1000RR luggage thread - what are my options?
When I travel alone, I use my Fieldsheer Compact Saddlebags:
2007 fieldsheer website You can get them for $90 online and they mount quickly. 2 drawbacks: 1) can't use with a high-mount exhaust 2) riding 2-up would prove to be challenging, unless you have an undertail and have removed the stalk directionals |

The Fieldsheer ones I have have a rubber backing that's between the bags and the bodywork that eliminates slippage and scratching.

the saddle bags would be ideal for a trip, but i need to make sure i can fit a few days of clothes, extra shoes, laptop, rain gear, etc into whatever i get. The shape of the saddle bags might prove to be difficult... ?

Yeah my normal commute with the laptop and work stuff is with a Timbuk2 bag. works awesome for around town but 5 hours of riding with it would seriously hurt your back

Yes, that would be one heavy backpack.
Have you checked out Givi? They have all kinds of luggage options, hard and soft. |

Have you tried a magnetic tank bag on the cbr1000rr's plastic tank cover? It works! Don't let people tell you otherwise!
I've used my Eclipse expandable tank bag since I bought my bike and even used it during the 1/4 mile. I can carry 4 gallons of milk in it on the highway with no problems. I don't even use the lanyard. It never tried to escape from me. |

The only down side is there are some clips that lead you to believe will clip the tailbag to the saddle bags, but after hours of cursing and numerous unsuccessful attempts, I gave up. But the saddle bag straps fit through the neoprene pad on the tailbag, effectively holding it all together... so there ya go... Behold... the Geekwing!!

Re: The 1000RR luggage thread - what are my options?
I bought a pair of Nelson Rigg saddlebags and a Sport tailbag that does attach quite nicely to the saddlebags and fits my 954. There is neoprene to prevent body damage, and I am pretty happy with the setup, although I haven't yet taken it for a long trip. My only compaint is that it does not attach very well on the aft quarter, but then again there is not much there in the tail end of the bike for it to attach to. It is not dissimilar to the Cortech system, but cheaper. Between all the bags this should hold a fair amount. I had a Cortech system for my old bike and was really happy with it. Indeed I sold it for about half what I had into it after several years of extensive use after I sold my old bike.

Re: The 1000RR luggage thread - what are my options?
I think the Nelson Rigg and Cortech systems are quite similar, although you would have the check the specifics for load capacity. The saddlebags are small, but they have to be to clear the pipe. Bikes with the pipe running up their six may be different. The tailbag is awesome, it can unzip a couple different ways to a fairly large size. I got the Nelson Rigg setup because it was about half the price of the Cortech at the time, and did roughly the same thing. I'll bet the Cortech is better, but not 2X better. That, and for me the setup is only used a few times a year, although I absolutely need it during those trips. And I think the Nelson Rigg tailbag is actually more capacious than the Cortech one.
