Carbon Fibre Helmet for $1000-1300

He is being a jackass and trying to show what a good friend he is by throwing money at him. I would rather a friend pick me up and take me to the bike store to get what I WANT if they are going to blow $1300. to spend all of that on a helmet is in my opinion like buying platinum caps for your teeth.... worthless

If you want a helmet that "looks" expensive though, the Suomy's win there. They have about 40 paint choices that all look custom.

That reminds me I need to call my uncle and see if my custom paint job is done.

I think he's kissing ass for his buddies ol lady.....certainly have to agree though it's a wast of money

has anyone found any reviews of how well any of the top helmets on the market work in a real world crash or what type of technology goes into the inside of the helmet?

Somewhere on here is the link to a crash rating test done on a bunch of helmets. I'll see if I can find it.

I bought the HJC CF AC12 and it is amazing. I like the padding but I have only had cheap helmets and other cheaper HJC's before. I have found that it is noisier than my last HJC but I believe that is because of the much improved
air flow. I either wear ear plugs or in the ear headphones(Senninhiesers) on the highway anyway. The visor is a HUGE improvement and the place I ordered from(DSR) sent a free tinted visor.

I am very happy with the AC12 and especially like the CF although I heard
the clearcoat can be delicate as far as ugly scars when dropped.
The AC12 CF also came with a very nice helmet bag not just a sock.

i have a UVEX helix RS helmet.Is full carbon,and its the lightest helmet in the market...it weights 990kg!I dont even feel the weight in my neck.Its comes with 2 visors (one clear,one mirror) and it has VERY good ventilation,everything inside comes off and its very good quality (germany made).I bought it for about 450euros here in Greece.

My concern would be if you crash in it. Have you ever witnessed what CF does when it reaches shatter point? It will explode with great force and you will have shards all around your head. Not what I would want.

if you think about it,all other helmets are actualy fiberglass.It reacts similar,exept cf is much stronger (and has epoxy resin,which doesnt crack so easily) and light.

We attacked my crashed CF helmet with an Axe... It took A LOT to break the shell - and it never shattered as you say.

As the other posts comments: CF or Fiberglass - it's nearly the same thing; just a different material used for the same concept.

No it doesn’t. Fiberglass will crack, but not shatter in thousands of very sharp shards.
What are race cars made out of? Carbon fiber, not fiberglass. What happens when they hit the wall?

Fiberglass and carbon fiber are not the same. An axe is also a sharp object. How many times do you think when you do down you will hit an axe?

I own an AC-11 (HJC). Its not a bad helmet, but if I had the $$$ I would purchase an Airoh TR1 (chrome) or an AGV S-4 (black/red looks awesome).

BTW: did you change your headlight fluid yet?

Believe what you want. I have cracked CF before, it does shatter; this is personal experience so I don’t have to believe anything as I know it as a matter of fact! Maybe you need to check your exhaust can bearings.

man if the hit so hard,that it would break and shatter the cf,then,i doubt that you could be saved by ANY helmet.
Carbon fiber,made with EPOXY resin in a propper way,is VERY-VERY hard to break and shatter,its also flexible enough.
Anyway,i trust it everyday...and my neck apreciates it (it weights 990gr).
In racing,many riders have cf helmets,before even produced massively.
They certenly have cf fairing,rims etc.Maybe they know something more.

bottom line is this, if DOT/Snell approves the helmet obviously its safe enough to be used. if it does "shatter/blowup" upon impact then i doubt the helmet would have been allowed to be produced w/ that DOT/Snell rating.
