Re: Lap Timer Installation

Its raining here in Hoosierland, so I fabricated a bracket and got my XT lap timer installed today.

I wanted to keep the gauges visible, and have the timer come on and off the bike with minimal effort. Ended up using the Scotts damper bosses to bolt up the new bracket. There are pockets underneath that fit over the bosses, so the damper is only raised about 0.05' even though the bracket is 0.125' thick.

Put a patch of Dual-Lok on it to mount the timer with. Seems to be out of the way, and yet still be accessible.

Here is the bracket:

Here's how it mounts on the Scotts bosses:

And here is the finished product:

Sorry for the long post.....rain delays suck...

Re: Lap Timer Installation

Nice work, what tooling did you use to make that? I need to a make a couple of mounts myself and I'm wondering what I'll need in the way of tools. Thanks.

Re: Lap Timer Installation

Follow Up Post:

Had my first track day of the year yesterday.....the first time I've used a lap timer. What a cool piece of hardware!

I never let it distract me on the track, but it was awesome to review my progress in the pits after a session. My lap times aren't stellar, but my objective was to monitor my progress or lack thereof......worked great. My lap times steadily improved through the day, and I was able to make the connection as to why.

Very cool....wish I had picked one up sooner......

Re: Lap Timer Installation

same here. first track day with the timer last saturday. i was hoping to keep tabs of faster/slower laps via the green/red led but i wasn't able to take my eyes off of the track long enough! it was great to check the times in the pits between sessions though. i improved my times about two seconds on the day. the software they include is pretty neat too. it was great to see the improvement throughout the day in graph form!

Re: Lap Timer Installation

Where did you guys get your timers from? Do they still have any in stock? Or did you get it from Byrd?

Totally, they checked stock before I ordered, and followed up when they shipped....two thumbs.

Re: Lap Timer Installation

Ever play with making a radar detector mount? You could probably sell quite a few of those since people always have trouble properly mounting them

Re: Lap Timer Installation

Baketech, thanks again for making me a set of the laptimer brackets. * *The fit and finish was perfect and they made it really easy to read the timer and play with the buttons. *I especially like the 'Red Rider' personal touch...got lots of compliments! *

Definitely a trick addition to my bike.
