Check out alpinestars... They are quality! Also, don't rule out getting a knee down on your first trackday! Just get some good tires & that ass off the seat!

yeah I'm not worried about draging a knee. The pucks are only like $35 so thats nothing. Its just the size of the back protector I'm worried about. The A* ones are on the list.

you know I didn't even look to see if it was. once it didn't fit I didn't bother with it anymore.

Re: back protector ?

Well, that's good news. I think it's a more Poseur-ish protector than anything. I'm not sure what the front plastic thing is supposed to do, doesn't look as substantial as dirtbike gear.

Maybe just a superhero-fetish thing?

Re: back protector ?

I honestly dont understand why everybody gets so hard on Icon . Sure they have stunters advertising their products but it's just to go for the market they're trying to appeal to. I mean if your trying to appeal to a youthful market then you need to gain some common ground. By no means is it track gear but for a commuter or weekend rider the stuff does it's job and serves it's purpose. Sure the designs are far from traditional and really out there but they're not trying to appeal to the track junkie.

On a side note, Anybody happen to notice that in the Kawasaki Zx14-R commercial the rider wears both a Mainframe helmet and Icon leather jacket?

Re: back protector ?

yep, the helmet with the "air-foil wing"

I'm not down on Icon, in particular. I bought one of their helmets, which has been great.

But, some of their stuff is super goofy - air foil wing helmet - case in point.

oh, and the "bling" gloves with the metal tappets.

and the (oooooohhhhhh Titanium) ti-max jacket.

etc.

aren't the helmets actually made by HJC?

those bling gloves have been reported to cut into people hands during an off. not sure how true that is though.

a friend has both the regular and mesh TiMax jackets. they seem to be staying together so far. not falling apart like some of the other gear.

Re: back protector ?

I just love the icon leathers that lack any hint of ventilation... I rode with one once and it was ridiculously hot. I think the problem with Icon is they pay more attention to how the gear looks than how it performs. They make nice looking jackets but can't even figure out a decent ventilation system let alone quality protective gear. It takes much more than looks for me to choose your company and Icon simply has not impressed me at all.

Anyway, back on topic. Next on my list is the icon back/chest protector. Hopfully it doesn't have any loose seams. The reason I'm going with icon is that I already have the helmet, jacket, gloves, and now knee pads.
As I've said....Icon sure does know how to market their product to their intended audience.

Re: back protector ?

I know when I got the Dainase, the sales guy measured me and I believe there were 3 sizes depending on your torso length.

On a side note, Why should you want to be safer when you go to the track , I believe your potencial for needing the safety equipment is great on the street.
