Re: For those that like the Garmin V
I think the memory is probably ok but still makes me nervous since if I am wrong no upgrade And of course there is always differing definitions of a nice ride
(mine 4-500 miles) Also I would like to do a week trip |

Re: For those that like the Garmin V
IIRC, the V only has about 20mb of memory. It held enough data for a trip from Cleveland to Lynchburg and surrounding areas with a little room to spare. That's ~500 miles, just to get there. And if you'd like to buy my V, I'd be happy to sell it to ya

![]() Not sure how much they're going for...I paid ~$500 for it last summer with some other accessories(some RAM mount stuff, hardwire kit, etc) but make me an offer and we can talk about it...

![]() I think the quest is coming my way in the near future since I liked the V and just wanted a little more from it. I am sure you can still get a decent return on the V if you put it up on ebay especially with all the extra goodies If you seriously want to sell it send me a PM with what you have and what you want for it b/c I know my ridding buddy is looking at the V also so I am sure he wouldn't mind picking it up especially with all the goddies already. |

128 meg might be enough. It really depends on what version of Mapsource you are using. For example, with Mapsource Roads & Recreation, all of California takes just under 24 meg. With Mapsource Metroguide (which has more data like restaurants, etc) all of California is over 50 meg. I have an email in with Garmin's tech support asking just this question, how much memory all of California takes up using the software that comes with the Quest. |

Re: For those that like the Garmin V
Just FYI....I heard back from Garmin. With North American City Select software (which is what comes with the Quest), just California would take up 109mb of memory. That's almost double the space Metroguide takes and 5 times what Roads & Rec takes. They need to put removable cartridge on that thing or at least give it the Euro amount of memory. The Quest is compatible with the other software I mentioned so if you didn't need all the other data I supose you could just upload mapsets from one of their other map products.

Re: For those that like the Garmin V
When you consider how huge Cali is that really isnt to bad. I mean most of the time if you are taking a road trip you load the path you are taking and that usually includes some of the surrounding areas.

Re: For those that like the Garmin V
Roads and Rec has no hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc. Only the roads. The version I have is a few years old so the latest roads aren't on it. I don't know how it compares to City Select though, or if you can use an auto-routing GPS with it. City Select probably has more addresses too. Roads & Rec has none.
