1000RR Bagster

It arrived. This was definately the most in-depth (and most secure) install I've done yet. It has more straps holding it on than any other model I've seen. One at the rear of the tank (under the seat), one between the upper triple and the damper, one below the steering stem, and 2 more on each side (1 clipped to the edge of the tank as other models have, plus another one that wraps around the frame itself near the front).

The new Athena bag is nice too. Can be carried by the handle, but also has 3 straps for carrying it as a shoulder bag or a backpack. Two outside storage compartments (one on each side), plus a netted pouch under the "lid" of the bag. Access to the map pocket is now through a zippered opening from inside the bag instead of the velcro'd flap on the outside that most have. The rain cover is stored in a zippered pocket on the bottom of the bag, as in the past. It expands via a wrap-around zipper also. The pictures show it in its "compact" mode. (I stuffed it with two throw pillows to fill it out. Expanded, it would hold a lot more. Sitting on the bike still allows for an unobstructed view of the gauges. (Even with it expanded, it wouldn't be blocking anything.) My chest barely touches the rear of the bag.

It's like $259 with shipping. Your choice of bag though. They have several models.

Re: 1000RR Bagster

The stuff looks top notch, truly, but your post begs the question: can you really go far enough on a narrow focus machine like the 1000RR to actually warrant fitting a large capacity bag like that? What's the longest haul you've done on that black beastie to date?

Just curious mind you, no flame.

Re: 1000RR Bagster

Most I've done in a day on it it about 150 miles. (Only have about 610 miles on it total.) I used to do 600+ mile days on the 929 though.

And, there are lots of choices for bags, so you could get a smaller model if you prefer.

I have to hand it to you then, that's a chunk for a bike like that. The new bike might be a bit more uncompromising in the ergo department, but still, I'm sure you'll be able to log some good long days since you're obviously used to doing so on past machines.

Yeah, they are the only US distributor. That's where you get em.

Here are the bag choices: http://www.bagster.com/en/catalogue-...3?id_moto=3984 (These are the black ones, but they have them to match other color schemes too.)

I got the Athena bag this time. My last bag, and Princess' bag, is the Alpha. I had the Omega on my XX before getting the Alpha. The Omega is a two-bag setup, with a large and a small that can be used separately, or attached together.

Re: 1000RR Bagster

so is the alpha smaller? And the athena being bigger? I just need to ride over and do a side by side comparison.

How difficult is it to get the tank cover off? To do maintenance and the like?

They are supposedly the same size capacity actually. I think they said the Athena would be the replacement for the Alpha, but the Alpha is still available for now. After seeing/having both, I like the Athena more so far.

The 600RR tank cover is much easier to remove than this one, so maintenance would be a snap. The 1000RR would probably take about 10 minutes to remove. Maybe 5 for the 600RR.

Bagster actually isn't leather. It's a PVC coated vinyl or something. Very durable, and easy to clean.

So, you *normally* ride with your chin resting on the bag?

I got a feeling that if his chin isn't on the bag, the bag is on his chin!
