Re: Ahlman speedo recalibrator install
ok, I searched, but the info I found pertained to the 954...
Do I need to remove the tank to install the Ahlman unit on my 929? I think I see the connector under the back of the tank, but I'm not sure I can squeeze my hands up there. One other possible problem...while I was attempting to do the above, I found a piece of tubing on the left side of the bike, under the rear of the tank, not attached to anything. I don't think I accidently pulled on anything hard enough to unattach it, but now I'm not sure. I traced the tubing...from the unattached end under the left side of the tank, it goes towards the middle of the bike to a T junction. From there, one piece of tubing goes down thru the bike towards the ground, where it hangs below the bottom fairings...a vent tube. The other end continues towards the right side of the bike, loops around and goes up under the middle of the tank somewhere. Any ideas? I figure I can look at someone else's 929 at Jennings. Still didn't install the speedo recalibrator... Sigh. |

Re: Ahlman speedo recalibrator install
Definately vent tube, I had to pull more slack out of that vent tube to lift my gas tank (by 'T' splitter). *No way could I fit my hands in there and I have smaller hands. *You could undo the connector without propping tank, but my problem was trying to snap the new connector in that space and routing the cable. *I propped the tank, and then it wasn't too bad.
Edit: I propped the tank for the PCIII install (oops mixed up), for the Recalibrator I just moved the bottom part of the tank towards the throttle side about 3-5' (all tank bolts out obviously), that gave me enough room to reach connector group. *My problem was all of the connectors bunched up in that rubber boot. |

Re: Ahlman speedo recalibrator install
Thanks, SuperDave & everyone! So, SuperDave, that tubing I'm talking about does have 2 open ends? One that comes out underneath the bike, and a second that is under the tank?
I'm thinking I'll have to prop the tank, too. What a pain, as I have to remove my steering damper. Oh, well! |

Re: Ahlman speedo recalibrator install
Sorry for the late response HondaGalToo, access to Fireblades only at work. *Open at 2 ends? *No, I'll have to check tonight, but there should be (2) tubes routed to the opening on the bottom fairing just below the shock. *(1) is from the vent line of gas tank, and I can't remember other one. *I do recall having to pull some slack from the tube right at this bracket behind the right middle fairing (just below tank). *That tube goes through a hole in that bracket and then to a 'T' type adapter/splitter. *If no one else identifies that exact tube you're talking about I'll trace them out tonight and respond tomorrow or maybe I'll stop home for *lunch.

Re: Ahlman speedo recalibrator install
Thanks again. Yep, I have 2 vent tubes at the bottom. The one we're talking about is the gas tank vent, I believe. That's the one on the bottom of the T that runs vertically out under the bottom fairing. Not a problem there. It's the horizontal lines running off the T to the right and left. The one running to the right side of the bike (as you're sitting on it) goes up and under the tank and is connected somewhere. The one that runs to the left under the back of the tank appears that it should be connected somewhere, but it's not, it's just open. I don't know if it should be like that, but I didn't see anywhere it should go. Maybe I'll have to pull up the tank to look.
Thanks again for your help!! Much appreciated. |
