A Little Grassroots Stealth Movement

Ok, for those of you who know me, I’m about working the system in many ways including contacting our Public Servants often to express our views on matters . . . here’s a new twist!

Granted, this tactic is “one small step” for OHV enthusiasts (now) but may end up being “one giant leap” for OUR kind!!

As many of you know, one of the most egregious organizations in the Public Land Access battle is the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA). They want to close ALL of Moab to motorized access.

Quote:

“Gather with fellow fans of Utah ’s redrock to hear an inside update about new opportunities to protect Utah ’s wildlands – including a new citizens’ campaign to Save the Greater Canyonlands – the utterly magnificent lands surrounding Canyonlands National Park . We will talk about this exciting new initiative and then spend some time thinking and strategizing together.

Everyone is welcome, even if you feel your time is limited or you are just learning about Utah’s wild lands.

Please join us! The future of the redrock depends on our working together to protect it”.

It just so happens that they are hosting three little get-togethers about this initiative in the near future and are providing free pizza and salad (naturally) during their land closure love fests.

They have requested an RSVP from those who intend to attend so they can ensure they have enough fine cuisine to go around.

Whether you actually intend to go or not, it’s irrelevant.

If you do care to go, we need responsible, well-spoken, informed folks to show up and represent. There is no point attending if the result is to reinforce the standard stereotype they cast over us all.

Anyway, simply spending a few cents for a long distance phone call or a few minutes emailing will get the job done.

Here is the meeting schedule . . .

Monday, April 4, 7-8:30 pm
Pitkin County Library
120 North Mill Street, Aspen, CO.

Tuesday, April 5, 7-8:30 pm
Riverside Community Center Fellowship Hall
552 West Main
Grand Junction, CO.

Thursday, April 7, 5:30-7:00 pm
Third Street Center
520 South Third Street, Carbondale, CO.

Just drop an email or dime to . . .

Terri Martin
Western Regional Organizer
Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance

. . . and “RSVP” since it would apparently be greatly . . . “appreciated but not required (so we can order enough pizza): terri@suwa.org, 801-236-3778”.

If asked, be sure and indicate you’ll be attending all the meetings as a newly awakened and very concerned enviRomaticist who is totally opposed to motorized recreation of any kind or something along those lines.

They continue bringing it to our backyards, let’s start taking them to the bank!!!

We need to get creative folks and this is just one of many ways we can use to extract a little revenge and satisfaction.

Whether you’ve been to Moab and love it or never plan to go, take a minute to jump on this . . . it’s part of a new grass roots strategy and the chance of a life time to make a small difference!!!

P.S. This would obviously work on any green group anywhere since they all have meetings, usually advertise them publicly on their web sites and normally offer salads, tofu/bean curd dishes and other green snacks (no green ham and eggs though). Give it a try in your neck of the woods too while we still can access them!

Haha I love it. Puts a new spin on the old phrase 'Eat them out of house and home'.

Good Luck

If nothing else it will mess with them on many other levels too like worrying about seating, parking, room occupancy capacity etc . . .

It's trending, I put it on over a dozen sites and folks on those sites are starting to put it up on other sites . . . may go VIRAL!!
