Re: Fatties, health thread
What I don't understand is why it has all just started now?
I do agree things have become very lazy e.g. you can do all of your shopping on line or by phone and that the only time you have to move is to collect your goods when they are delivered, but thats not everyone. They are saying that soon everyone will be fat. So what? If they are happy, leave them alone! Fatist/Weightist Bast*rds ![]() Why not bring in schemes within schools... I saw an advert where kids were learning about vegetables, how to make them and what they tasted like so that in the long run, they themselves will learn about healthy living. Its not going to happen overnight, Rome wasn't build in a day... Teach people how to become fit, lower the price of healthier foods and maybe, just maybe something might happen. |

It’s not so much the obese adults that bother me it’s the poor kids. I seriously would love to bring in a law to prosecute parents of obese children. Kids just follow the (waddling) obese parents cause they don’t know any better, but if they have the intelligence to fe** and reproduce then they should be held responsible, well I thought responsibility was the meaning of parenthood? Surely these obese adults can’t seriously want their children growing up with diabetes, hardened arteries, really bad joint problems, shorter life span, bad backs, and bad hearts, socially limited because they can’t interact in a normal healthy way with their piers. No young healthy teenager boy wants to be seen with an obese girl and its also visa versa, I have yet to see the prom queen being escorted by an obese out of breath male, I know a lot of you are screaming at that last remark but if you can disprove it then go ahead. Maybe it’s a case that they feel so embittered to society that the only people they can take control over is their kids, so they take it out on their kids the fact that they have absolutely no will power or any respect for their own bodies? I have yet to meet a healthy parent yet who if you asked them to stick poison in their child’s body would do it. Unless of course if you got lucky and asked a fanatical Jew up a mountain. So to get back to your point yes the scheme has been in operation for years but the total responsibility lies with the parents not with the government and with our tax money. Everybody with an iq above 75 (and that’s low) knows that being obese is bad for you, so parents shouldn’t be allowed to make their kids obese and put them on a road that will cause so much physical and mental pain to their kids for the rest of their shorter lives. If we stop kids being obese we stop adults being obese as well it goes with out saying. A huge excuse that fat/obese people use is that they have a slower metabolism that is absolutely crap in fact the opposite is true. You did mention the price of food as well, another thing that really annoys me is not well off parents or single mums going into supermarkets and buying those expensive jars of baby food, wtf is that all about, all they have to do is make an extra portion of dinner for themselves, liquidise it and freeze for the baby. One last thing I have to say is that there are a small percentage of people with hormone and genetic disposition towards obesity, I’m not referring to any of you here.

No you cant be fat and healthy at the same time, you may in a minutely way seem healthy but in general your killing yourself. Being lean is natural it goes back 10000 of years, so yes you can be healthy and slim

Re: Fatties, health thread
bmi over 25 is a good starter, if that dosnt work because of muscle build then you can easily try this unscientific approach.
Can you* play ball for an hour, can you just have twenty mins of rugby? Can you play squash for 5 mins intensively, can you chase me for at least 200 metres for fun? These are easy trials, any kid 20 years ago could have done any of those requests

Many parents face the problem of home cooked dinners (which include their five vegetables) taking up too much of their precious time and that it is much easier and cheaper to buy ready cooked meals from the local supermarket. Child minders are also getting looked at as again, they are feeding the kids they look after sweets, fizzy drinks and crisps (and then chips/burgers etc) I agree its within the parents control, but I also see a downward spiral if both the government and parents don't make a move... and fast. |

Re: Fatties, health thread
You need to take a look at these figures.. In 2005 $11,260,000,000 was spent on food advertising, compared with the $9,055,000 which was spent on nutrition education..
The companies selling food research the market, the potential buyers of their product in excrutiating detail now.. and will present the advertising in a way which makes us buy the product, whether it is good for us or not.. and they are getting really sneaky about how they do it.. Did you know that you are more likely to buy something if the packaging, advertising, or images associated with it are RED and YELLOW? Even if you know that excessive consumption of the product will lead to obesity and health problems.. With kids food they will use cute cartoon characters to get us to buy the product.. I did make my kids food when they were babies, they ate everything we did and I knew exactly what they were eating.. Plus it was cheaper for me at the time.. The food advertisers and marketing companies these days are creatring a need in us for their product, and I bet that half the time we dont even realise how they are doing it!! Things like the sugar free options annoy me.. Yes they may be free of sugar but instead they are chock full of artificial (chemical) sweeteners instead, and if like me you have a kid who is affected by artificial sweeteners, you have to be careful what you buy and read the labels on the food or drink. Our kids dont have any fizzy drinks, they rarely have even fruit squashes, they have water or milk all the time.. Sweets are a treat maybe once or twice a week, certainly not an everyday occurance.. They have to eat what they are given at the end of the day for dinner, no argument.. Sounds harsh, but at the end of the day both our kids are slim and healthy.. We dont own a car so the kids walk everywhere.. Its great seeing them have the energy and fitness levels where they can charge round with their mates when out playing.. and I wouldn't have it any other way..
