Site functions thread - Tips and Tricks

Twincam just pointed out the double arrows on the upper right of the quick reply box, it helps if your wording up a lengthy reply on a thread. I thought there might be other little functions that pass users by becasue you browse a site in much the same way from day to day. I'm always using the last post button so I often start at the last post, then go to the first post and read the whole thread...

Good thread - I knew something along these lines will come up... (Maybe Loopy can post something about her Hyperlink covers - not sure what you call them)

I think I know what button your on about... For other users: Ever click on a thread and have to scroll right down to the bottom to read the last post?

If you click on "Today's Posts" for example, in the "Last Post" column will be the person who has last posted, and next to their name will be a little arrow pointing right. This button will take you to the last page (if there is one), and also the last post at the very bottom.

Re: Site functions thread - Tips and Tricks

I almost always just click "New Posts" and get any that are new since I last visited. Then I use the "view first unread" that appears on the left side of the screen just above the avatar of the first post of the page to avoid having to sort throught to find out where I left off in a thread. Unlike dot org I don't like reading the first post last because it generally just leaves me confused then. I always read the thread in order and the "view first unread" allows skipping right to where you left off. It is especially helpful on huge long threads. Like maybe you have read the first five pages of a thread and then while you are gone two pages get added. You don't know for sure where you were before so just click on page one and then hit "view first unread."

As for the Hyperlink covers, I just learned that one myself.

1. Write the text that you want to be a link (EXAMPLE HERE)

2. Go to the link that you want in the spot and do a highlight/copy

3. Then highlight the text that you want to cover the link.

4. Click the little world with the chainlink button that is next to the quote button. A popup appears.

5. Do a paste of the link that you copied into the bottom text box of the popup.

6. Click "OK"

Re: Site functions thread - Tips and Tricks

Hyper links are easy to do

Just type whatever word/words you want to be the link to the other webpage.. eg, if i wanted to link to say the Christmas Gifts That Suck Thread, I could type "Sh!te Gifts" and make that the link..

Once you have typed your linking words all you do is click on the "insert link" symbol at the top of the reply box you are typing in, and a little window will open..

Just copy/paste the URL of the page you want to send people to in the box and click on the OK tab..

.......and voila the words "Shite Gifts" will send people to the new page, opening it in a new window..
