Auxiliary Battery Setup

Hey guys, I built my own aux battery box using a Princess Auto ATV gas tank bracket and a marine battery box. Wondering if anyone has tied into the alternator with an aux battery and can suggest the best way to access it. Looks like the alternator is under the passenger seat. Thanks

Re: Auxiliary Battery Setup

Don't mind at all. So all in $145 + tx, breakdown is as follows...

Battery Box: Built my own using a metal ATV gas can holder I picked up from Princess Auto for $10. Then used a couple of U ($5) bolts to secure it. Then a Marine battery box ($15) made of plastic that fit perfectly in the gas can holder (total cost = $30 + tx)

Battery: Put in another YTX14-bs battery made by Yausa (this is exact model provided from when purchased) This is very important as using a larger battery would cause premature battery death in the smaller battery. Reason being, they have different internal resistance and the larger battery will always be trying to charge the smaller battery. Anyway, 12 V / 12 AH Yausa battery was $85 + tx.

Cables: My two batteries are linked in parallel and cables ran me $30.

As long as big red is on, I should never have a problem using winch, aux lights and a few other toys. Hope this helps.

Re: Auxiliary Battery Setup

Here are a few pics. Hope it gives you ideas...

1st picture is the marine battery box being supported by the 3rd picture which is the gas can holder from Princess Auto.
2nd picture is the wiring snapshot between primary and secondary battery wired in parallel. I have build a custom wooden box out of pressure treated that houses my controller for the 4500 lbs Viper Max winch I installed.
