2 wheel drive

2 wheel drive in rough terrain is not very good but if you take the cotter pin out of the cable for the rear diff lock you can lock the rearend just like any other quad. Great traction in 2 wheel drive and she will do powerslides too. Robert 2011 camo Big Red

Re: 2 wheel drive

It would be even cooler to add a position somehow to have the rear diff lock operable without 4wd so you could go back and forth easily...

Re: 2 wheel drive

You still have 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel diff lock but when your in 2 wheel drive you dont just have one wheel pulling you have both pulling. Robert

Re: 2 wheel drive

I just got a used service manual on ebay for $18. I may look into engineering this added control (rear locker selection in 2wd), and will advise when I do. First I am going to figure out how to install a descent fuel gauge in the dash, alonmg with maybe oil pressure and temp. I love Honda's approach to simplistic engineering but it pisses me off to have to get out of the machine to see how much gas I have...lol

Re: 2 wheel drive

Instead of unhooking the cable at the rearend you could unhook it at the shifter and attach it to another lever to lock or unlock it, there's plenty of places to mount one. My area is to rough for the turf saver mode it's always spinning out so i thought i could just reach under and push the lever foward if i wanted the turf mode but a seperate lever would be nice.

Re: 2 wheel drive

I ride in some very rough terrain as well and found that disconnecting the rear sway bar help a lot in getting around in 2wd.

Re: 2 wheel drive

How does it handle with the swaybar unhooked on cornering and off camber hills.

Re: 2 wheel drive

Never had any issues. The Big Red is not the fastest machine in the world but at full speed I have never felt any roll from the sway bar being removed. In rough terrain it really shines as the rear flexes a lot more keeping both rear tires planted on the ground.
