Digital Dash

Has anyone installed the digital dash themselves? Any hints? I just ordered one for my dad, and want to do it right, but plan on doing it myself.
Thank you!

Re: Digital Dash

I did mine and the only problem I had was figuring how to remove the shift knobs and steering wheel cap. I laid a block of wood on the dash and with a pry bar lift the knobs straight up and they slid off. The steering wheel cap is a snap on and can be lifted to snap off with a small screw driver.

Re: Digital Dash

The dash material is very soft. I started with my 2 1/2" air cutoff wheel cut the straight sections and then cut the corners with a utility knife. I had to enlarge the hole a little as instructions picture is not the best. When you install the cover over the meter make sure the window area of the new digital meter is centered in the hole before drilling for the push pins. The only other problem I had was with the screws that hold the dash on some were a little stubborn to remove.

Re: Digital Dash

OFRC boy...thank you for the tips! So, I guess you have to remove the dash before you begin the actual installation? I was hoping this would be simple!!!

Re: Digital Dash

Get a #3 phillips that is on a 3/8 drive ratchet . don't use a regular driver or you'll mess up the screws. You can leave the netting brackets on. once the dash is off you will see it is pre scored and you can cut it with a razor knife. Took me about 2 hrs , pretty easy.

Re: Digital Dash

OK, one more question...we are in the middle of taking everything apart, including the wiring harnesses. The green wiring connector is proving to be a challenge...cannot figure out how to take it apart...I feel like a moron!! Any hints??

Sorry I don't remember, but all the connectors have a release on them don't force it, just keep looking you will find it.

Re: Digital Dash

Just thought I would add that I used a roto-zip on a slow setting to cut the dash just in case somebody else reads this.

Re: Digital Dash

I ended up using a utility knife with an exacto in the corners...very easy to cut it out, once you figure out WHERE you want to cut...
