2 Stoke or 4 stroke
Hi everyone Well I am going to be getting into motocross racing. I just wanna know which bike would be better for me to start on. I am looking at a 2002 CR125 or a YZ250F. Any help would be great.
thanks Michelle |

Re: 2 Stoke or 4 stroke
Wanted to answer this quite awhile ago Bikerbabe, but I've been out of the dirtbike scene for too long (as in, they had just recently invented the monoshock
). I think with today's bikes you probably won't go wrong either way. Unless they have changed drastically though, the 4 stroke is probably still a better beginner's bike, what with the usable low end torque and all. |

Re: 2 Stoke or 4 stroke
The yz250f is infinitely easier to ride than any two stroke 125. It is faster without being as hard to handle in my opinion.
The 125 class is almost completely dominated by 250 thumpers now, at least at the local level that I race. The new Honda CRF250 is also worth looking at if you don't want a blue one. |

Re: 2 Stoke or 4 stroke
A couple years ago, I thought i would give the motorcross thing a try. I got a used 94 cr125...Good Lord that thing is insane! I never got the hang of the 2 stroke power band. Seems like the power is either on or off...I think a 4 stroke would have been way easier to get the hang of...I could be wrong though....I know one thing though; a cr125 + a motorcross track + not knowing what the hell you are doing = a lot of bruises a big serving of humble pie

Re: 2 Stoke or 4 stroke
go with four stroke. better power. no mixing fuel. even though they're a little more "fun" to rebuild. you get a bit more ride time out of a 4 stroke between rebuilds. like once a season or maybe even 2 seasons on one top end
