Dayum! A "wrap-around" skid plate! That should help.

Do you fall down a lot?

I spray the big chunks off with the pressure washer before I put it up, but I haven't officially "washed" it since I got it. It's just a dirt bike. It's dirty/scuffed/etc.

Nope. Just once since I got it. But this is for going over rocks, fallen trees, and stuff.

Re: More Protection

I've also heard that this is a good idea because if the chain breaks, it'll break the engine casing.

Re: More Protection

Here's the main things I wanted to protect (oil lines). They are just hanging out in the open with the stock "engine guard" (if you want to call it that).

Re: More Protection

Probably a nice try.. I doubt the chain will ever break if you take care of it the way you're supposed to.. And I have never seen a single post that tells me you skip safety related maintenance on any of your bikes

Re: More Protection

2 of my bud's have had broken chains in the past year. One would have lost the lower half of his foot if it wasn't for his boots and the other still has a leaky engine case that has been repaired many times over. It broke that little guard thing in front of the counter shaft sproket.

Yeah, the stock guard is flimsy.

Re: More Protection

At any rate, a good, quality skidplate is mandatory on any dirtbike! Can save much grief and $$ in the long run. Cheapest piece of insurance you can buy.

Re: More Protection

i dont understand - why would these types of bikes be built like that? they are meant to be taken off road. they have no protection seems to me if something like that was to happen to your bike you could go back to the manufacturuer and claim faulty equipment design. you wouldn't design a car without a windshield would you?

After removing the front sprocket cover to clean out that area, I found that the 400 now comes with an item very similar to this one, STOCK. It's just hidden behind the cover. I guess they figured out that people kept cracking cases...
