Brake help - need to change rear pads

Has anyone changed out rear brake pads?
I was changing a wheel & noticed right rear brake was dragging. Pulled caliper off to clean out dry mud, etc & inside pad almost worn out. Only have about 300 miles of trail riding.

How does the piston go back in?
Does it just compress?
It has slots on the face & it looks like there is a tool to turn it back in as on some cars?

Called on aparts - of course left & right are different, dealer sells one wheel at a time @ about $40.00 each.....

Any help appreciated

Re: Brake help - need to change rear pads

one of selling points of the big red was things copied over from the automobile industry. if this hold true for the brakes, remove the cover on the brake fluid tank and use a c-clamp to compress the piston using the old pads. after being compressed it should stay. once done the pedal may be a little flat at first till you pump it a few times. it is fairly easy

Re: Brake help - need to change rear pads

I checked the service manual and the piston in the caliper does screw in using the special tool { lock nut wrench # 07716-0020100 } or equivalent. I have never worked on the brakes on my Big Red but I have on my 09 Honda Accord and the calipers had to be screwed in also, I didn't have the tool but used the flat end of a pry bar to screw it in. I later went to a auto supply store and bought a universal tool for next time, I think one of these tools would also work on the Big Red.

Re: Brake help - need to change rear pads

Thanks for help. I believe I have that universal tool from past auto work.

Just waiting on pads now.
