Tracks

I'm thinking of getting some Camoplast tracks for my BR. I would appreciate any input I could get about how they have preformed for people that have added them (or any other track). Curious how they affect speed, power' and handling. I'll use them in a cow calf operation with hunting (coyotes) as recreation.

Thanks

Re: Tracks

I saw your thread when I Googled tracks earlier. To tell the truth it's what led me to this forum in the first place. Very good info.

How do you like the tracks after running them for a year?

Re: Tracks

I use them mostly for plowing snow and for that they are awesome. They allow me to run up over the snow which means I need less of an area to stack snow. As for riding they are okay in the trails but once you break out into a clearing you really notice the lack of speed. That said were I live we don't get good snowmobile conditions so being able to run through mud and water with the tracks make it a better option. My father has the same tracks on a Prowler and they use it for hauling groceries from the parking lot to there house which is a kilometer back in the woods. They get a lot of snow and find it better than a snowmobile for day to day use. Now they do own 4 snowmobiles that they use heavily.

Re: Tracks

Curious about speed. Camoplast say's 65% with tracks. I'm stuck at 41 mph with the speed limiter. Not sure if the limiter is RPM or how it determines when to kick in. Not too big a deal, I'm more interested in getting through heavy drifts. But it would be nice to get to the next drift in a timely fashion.

Maybe I'll peruse the forum on info on the speed limiter seeing as I just joined it.

Re: Tracks

Top speed for me has been 20 mph (speedo 40). One thing I really hate is when climbing long up hill roads the BR keeps shifting from 3 to 2 gear. I have tried a keep the one speed, slowing down and it just keeps shifting. Also when climbing steep hills it does not stay in first gear, so 1/4 way up the hill it shift's down to first and I do not have enough speed to climb the hill. After all this I still love them and look forward to snow one day. We are still waiting for snow out here in CA. I have been in some deep snow up to the front bumper. I have had no problems with the camplast 4s.

Re: Tracks

Have tatou 4s as well, love them. Looks like a tank and gets a lot of attention. Worth the money so far. I rather have just the one all year machine then having others such as a snowmobile, etc that would require additional insurance. It works for me as speed isn't a huge concern.

Re: Tracks

Well, good, bad, or indifferent, I've ordered a set of tracks. The last two winters have been fairly heavy snow. Probably not as heavy as you get up north, but with the sustained winds we get the drifts become really interesting. Who would have thought you would have to get snowshoes to hunt in N.W. Iowa.

At my age I look at my snowmobile and my body hurts even without riding it. I'm hoping the Big Red with tracks should be fun. I can't see why not.

That said, once I have them (tracks), it probably won't snow. Oh well, I'll see how they do in mud this spring while fencing.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Tracks

Ever since I put the tracks on it refuses to snow. Go figure. Did cut my speed in half like everyone said.

Took it out in some muddy conditions and was amazed at the amount of mud the tracks threw up. I have a front windshield, hardtop, and rear soft cover (no doors), so got splattered some. I assume I will have the same problem with snow. Does any one make fender extensions? Or is my best option getting doors. If so who makes the best ones?

Re: Tracks

I don't ride in the mud so I cannot compare it to the snow but I don't find the snow gets thrown at you that bad. I have gone on several rides with the family with only the roof and windshield and no one complained.
