Left and arm and leg at the dealership.
First oil and filter change, plus want to change the gear lube in my Big Red. Made the break-in period and according to the maintenance manual, this should be done. Of course, I first thought about using something other than Honda fluids to do this. I had to stop at the dealership to get the filter and I asked the question... "Why Honda fluids?" I was impressed with the answer the parts man gave me. Don't know if he rehearsed this or is told to say what he did, but he convinced me (barely) to use Honda fluids. So, an arm and leg later, I left the dealership and went home to do the maintenance. Anyone care to ad their opinion, either way, to this. Next time, I shop around a little more.

Re: Left and arm and leg at the dealership.
My brother is a mechanic and worked for A&B cycle in Mobile, AL., for a while. Although he has some OCD tendencies, he insists that we use factory lubes, filters, etc. in our Hondas, Sea-Doos, the Scag mower, etc.
When confronted with the facts that these manufacturers do not refine their own oil or make their own filters, he replies that these items are made to Honda's quality specifications and other, similar products, made by the same company are made to lesser (or greater as the case may be) specifications. Considering the cost of the powertoy and the fact that Hondas, if properly maintained, last FOREVER... I don't argue with him. I sleep well at night knowing that Big Red gets only the best! That said, when we tore a CV boot early on and the dealer was an A$$ about the boots, I ordered them from Danny the CVman and they work like a charm. Best of luck, -=T=- |

Re: Left and arm and leg at the dealership.
Wondering how anyone is judging the time to go back to your dealer to have your first service. Are you going through several tanks of gas or what???????
