BR Novis

guys i am fixing to purchase a 2011 BIG RED

and since most of you seem to have had them awhile and found alot of places to get mods from i was going to see if you could share the wealth of knowledge

1. first where is the best place (cheapest) to get cv protectors
2. does anyone make a winch bumper for the Big Red yet, or is this something i will need to make myself?
3. do ya'll recomend the full, full folding, or half windshield?
4. does the back glass really help, or just get in the way.
5 is it worth the 200 bucks for the digital dash??

thats all i got for now
thanks to anyone that may respond.
and thanks for all ya'lls previous posts, ya'll are the reason i have settled on a BR and not a belt driven machine

Re: BR Novis

1. first where is the best place (cheapest) to get cv protectors
i am having a buddy fab me some in his shop
2. does anyone make a winch bumper for the Big Red yet, or is this something i will need to make myself?
i have not found one yet so i have started modifying mine since i don't like the mount being hidden inside the frame
3. do ya'll recomend the full, full folding, or half windshield?
if you are buying one i would go with the full folding i have built my own and cut it into 3 seperate peices so that i can either take out the center or open the bottom of it to give me air flow. with a full windsheild it seems to pull all the exhaust fumes right into the cab. I also have a full soft cab enclosure with zippered doors that is nice in the cold i only paid about $150 for it .
4. does the back glass really help, or just get in the way
see above... with full cab in cold weather it is nice and also in wet weather when you don't want to get soaked
5 is it worth the 200 bucks for the digital dash??
when i bought my big red the only one on the lot had the digital dash so i have never had to do without it and am not sure what i am missing but in my opinion honda should include it in the price and not charge extra for it. i would probably not get it if i had the choice in having to spend $200

Re: BR Novis

digital dash is good for maintenace...like oil changes. it was not hard to install. i did it myself in about 1-1/2 hours.

you don't have to have a bumper to have the winch. you can buy a mounting plate that works fine. although as previously stated, the winch will be somewhat hidden and is kind of a pain to gain access to. i also did this myself and although i would not label it as difficult, it definately was not fun. a second set of hands would have helped.

i have the kolpin full tilt windsheild. folding would be ok, but i like the idea of removeable upper section better.

Re: BR Novis

thanks for the imput guys.

i think i will try fabricating a winch bumper, 1.) for looks 2.) for ease of use.

will probably go with the kolpin full tilt

still trying to decide on cv protectors. wish i could find the cheap place someone had posted a few months ago, they looked well built and were under 100 bucks for front and rear sets

Glad to hear you are happy with it. I love mine and have had no regrets in buying it 3 years ago.

Re: BR Novis

FYI, Warn makes a front bumper that will hold a winch.

Re: BR Novis

I didn't see one listed on Warn's site for the Big Red when I was looking for bumper ideas but I cannot see why one couldn't be modded to fit. I have spoke to a guy who modified a Boss snowplow mount for a Ranger to fit the Big Red with only a few minor mods. If I was going to modify a Warn bumper then I would look at the Ranger option.

Re: BR Novis

told a buddy of mine (that is the super over the local papermill) what i was gonna do, he told me when i got a chance, pull the factory bumper and send him a pic of what i want and he would get his ace welder to put it together i had the choice of flat black or stainless. total charge $0.00

think i gonna go with black since its my hunting buggy, but dang stainless would sure look cool

Re: BR Novis

My advise on the cv protectors is aluminum products, good price and much more coverage than any of the others. I installed an hour meter and used the money in other areas. if you use a full windshield you may want a back one too. if you use a half, you will have no problem with back flow.

Re: BR Novis

if i use only my lower half of the full tilt windsheild i do get dust swirling in the cab. it seems to be worse on the passenger side. i can not comment much on the full windshield, cause i have limited riding with it on.

hey bonecollector, you gotta be from the south. i just noticed you were "fixing to" buy a big red. i have only heard that here in LA and in MS...LOL!

Re: BR Novis

If you live an a dusty climate, you might think about a snorkle or fresh air kit. I have them for sale on Ebay. I manage a Honda dealership in eastern Oregon, and this is our fix for the bad air inlet design.

Thanks Tom.......
