HID Lighting (More Info.)

The site Motorcycle HID Lights has got the bulb for the BR now. I took a bunch of pics and sent it to them trying to find a bulb that I did not have to modify to make fit. They found the bulb for it. The number on the bulb is a 5259. That is what they called it anyway. I just got mine in today and got them installed. They look awesome. Here is the link to the BR:
Big Red HID Lights
They even have one of the pictures that I sent them on there web site now. I thought that was pretty cool.
I will let you know if I have any problems with them

Awesome. I want to go with HID's and from what I am reading this setup is a direct fit for the Big Red and it retains the high and low beams. Will have to order these for my fall and winter riding.

Hey sfrankland, I just wanted to let you know that the bulbs for the BR are low beam only. They will work on the low or high side switch of the BR depending how you hook them up, but you will not get a low and a high beam. I read what you saw on the site and that is a little confusing how they put that, but I wanted you to know the truth of the situation. I will tell you this... I just went out for a nite ride and these bulbs blow away the stock low and high beams. I love em! Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

My mistake I misread the product info.

Quote:
You will receive 1 bulb for your low beam and 1 bulb for your high beam if your bike/atv only uses 1 bulb for each. If your bike or atv uses 2 bulbs for low beam and 2 bulbs for high beam, you will get only the low beam bulbs.
Still I think the should be standard on all bikes. My buddies bike can be seen day or night due to the extra brightness. With all the bouncing around on the trails it is hard to see other bikes behind you in the rear view mirror. With the HID's you can easily see the lights so at least you know they are behind you.

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

Bigduckhunter, which kit did you go with? The standard or digital slim. Question is here gents, long term, will this melt the reflector? More light = more heat normally with these type of systems.

I ordered the regular ballast but they sent me the slim ones. I was thinking that maybe they did this since I sent them all of those pictures of the bulb and housing.
I wondered also about the heat of that bulb being too much for the reflector. They do get warmer than the stock bulb. I will let you know if I have any issues with it.

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

I had the HIDs in my RZR for 6 months and did a LOT of night riding. Never had a heat issue.....even had the 55w and no problems. One of the best upgrades I did on the machine and a MUST if you ride at night.

Ok, that said I will put it at the top of the list. The time change will be here before we know it and darkness will be upon us at 18:00.
Thanks for the feedback

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

That was my reason for getting them. We tend to ride during the day though but we have got into a bit of trouble and that required us to ride home in the dark.

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

Can anyone tell me if the bulb fits properly? and if the plastic cover that you have to take off to get to the bulb will fit back on when the new lights are installed? Could someone tell me if they had to cut the harness or would it plug up to the factory harness? thanks Kyle

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

I just installed the 5259 HID kit in by BR. The bulb locked in and fit perfectly. I did not have to cut any wires. When you remove the stock bulb you are left with the female side of the factory harness. Use the red and black wires from the HID kit , which have the male ends attached, and put them into the factory plug to get power and ground to the ballast/igniter for the HID. The factory green wire is ground and the other two wires provide power at the high and low beam positions on the factory switch. The white wires provide power at the low beam switch position. I would put a meter on yours and check ground & power to be sure. Good luck.

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

You asked about the plastic cover. I assume you mean the black cover about 3-4" in diameter. I cut a 1" hole in the black cover to accomodate the boot provided in the HID kit. Be careful to drill the hole in the correct location - it should be off center and directly behind the bulb housing. WHen lined up correctly the HID assembly and boot fit nicely in the 1" hole. If it isn't lined up correctly you may not get the black cover back on without hogging out the cover and losing your seal. Hope that helps.

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

Pictures of the HID wiring Boot installed in the balck cover. I used double sided tape to secure the ballast and igniters to the headlight housing. The factory harness is in its original location but I did not disaassble it to take pictures.

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

Thanks for posing these pictures. While HID lights are a mod that I would like to do I'm torn between that and a LED light. I will continue to search for info however I'm leaning to a LED bar.

Re: HID Lighting (More Info.)

Led bar would also be my first choice but the high price doesn't seem worth it compared to the HID's.
