That is not cheap! Go to Harbor Freight tools and get a 8,000 pounder for less than that.

Beware of off brand winches, you get what you pay for. A Honda winch kit retails for $799.00 so $500 + shipping is a good by, I would not say "CHEAP" but a good price. I paid $ 363.00 for mine shipped to my door. Factory Honda 4,000# Warn winch kit with mounting plate and everything except aux. battery box bolted right up to my Big Red no problems.

Re: BIG RED HONDA 4000LB WINCHES 4SALE NEW CHEAP

I am considering the winch kit but am wondering about the requirement for the aux battery is it just because the original battery is to small cause if I understand it the aux battery is connected in paraell? Also does the kit come with a dash mount switch or just a corded remote? One last thing if I were to use an aftermarket winch and the aux battery setup would this affect my warranty?

Yes the factory battery is to small to power the winch for long. I built my own battery box and will install a Lawn and Garden tractor battery as my second battery. They are small, inexpensive, and are 235 CCA compared to the stock battery 12AH with 210 CCA. The kit does come with wiring and installs in the back wall of the glove box. The remote cord plugs into it for control of the winch. You will need battery cables for your spare battery unless you buy the Honda battery box as it comes with cables and does not use a Isolator.

I hear you about chinese made electric motors, etc. But for something one uses rarely, why pay so much. The Warn and Ramsey lines have gone over the top on prices. And I bet they too are made, or at least assembled in China. You can buy the cheap stuff, and a warranty for one quarter of the brand names.

My Warn winch on another machine gets full of mud and water and has to be cleaned out all the time. It has not worked when I needed it most the time. I can buy the cheap stuff, put one on the front and another on the back of my UTV, and have money left over.

As a winch user for 45+ years I stand by my statement. I do agree retail prices are over the top, but if you do your homework fair prices can be found. If you fail to clean and maintain your equipment and don't use often by all means buy the cheap Chinese stuff. That way when it doesn't work like your Warn winch you can be happy you still have a few bucks in your pocket. I will spend my money wisely, clean and service my equipment and it will be ready when I need it most.

I do clean and maintain my equip, but to have to remove your Warn winch from behind the bumper and disassemble it for cleaning out internal sand and mud is over the top. There are cheaper "Chinese made" winches that are at least water proof. Why doesn't warn make waterproof winches and warranty them for water?

I bought mine off E-bay but the prices now are very high. I search everyday for the things I need and put them on my watch list. Best price I know of at this time is the one at start of this post is a good deal. Good Luck!

Re: BIG RED HONDA 4000LB WINCHES 4SALE NEW CHEAP

OK its me one more time and I have bought the EMP winch mount and a Venom winch and was wondering about the winch position. It appears that it needs to be installed overwound not like the typical underwound position, is this correct or am I looking at it wrong? Any repliies would be appreciated!

On all my Honda's the winch pulls from the top of the drum. I contacted Warn and they say as long as you install as per instructions that is OK. I have 3 Honda's they all work pulling from the top. The theory behind the bottom pull is the cable will tend to go down upon breaking vs up with over. Be safe and always throw your coat or something on the cable when winching that way if the cable fails it should stop the flying cable.

Re: BIG RED HONDA 4000LB WINCHES 4SALE NEW CHEAP

i think i am gonna have me a real bumper made for my nice new BR and mount the winch on top of the bumper. that way the winch stays a little more out of the water and mud and will be easier to maintain the winch, and use when needed

Re: BIG RED HONDA 4000LB WINCHES 4SALE NEW CHEAP

I have a Warn winch on my Arctic Cat and a water proof Viper Elite 5000# on my Big Red. My Big Red with the load I carry is from 2000 to 2500 pounds. The Viper with kevlar rope pulls it out of bad mudholes and over stumps with surprising speed. I bought it direct from the manufacturer's website for $420 shipped. It has two wireless remotes and a dash switch.

My Warn is good, but gets water and sand in it and has left us stuck a few times with quirky non-waterproof electrical systems. The Warn workmanship looks better but in the mud it does not perform as well and it requires more annual maintenance to take it off the bike and take it apart to get all the sand and silt out of the winch drum and housings
