Radar Detectors
I'm looking for a detector that's ideal for motorcycles. I'd need one that can detect most traps and has an effective warning system.
The Belltronics has been recommended to me, howhever it's not rated too highly: http://www.epinions.com/Bel_Tronics_...splay_~reviews Is it true you can conceal the detector inside your jacket and it's just as effective if it were mounted to the front of the bike? If this is true, I'd want to go cordless. So what do you guys recommend? Barna |

Re: Radar Detectors
I have a '98 blade, and I have the Valentine1 mounted in that cavity under the headlight/above the fairing. I have the remote indicator module mounted at the forward-most part of the windshield with 2-sided tape, just above the tach, in line-of-sight. I also have the (http://www.legalspeeding.com/) HUD mounted in my helmet.
And check this place out (http://www.saeng.com/cockpit.htm) for mounting harware for detectors or GPS or what-all. No warrants with my name yet!! Last edited by BrianG; 02-08-2004 at 1:51 PM. |

I'm in Australia though so don't have access to the V1s that everyone raves about here, I'd like to get mine mounted on top of my headlight in the cavity behind the speedo but I've yet to devise a way of doing so, otherwise I'm going to mount it from the left hand mirror mount under the fairing. I'm going to make a system similar to the legalspeeding.com HUD system, but with a wire (only becasue they don't make one for the Bel.) I'll let you know how I go. I would imagine it would work fine in your jacket but won't be as effective as if it was facing forwards. cordless detectors will never be as good as their powered versions, I'd go with the powered version if I were you. cheers Ben. |

Re: Radar Detectors
My system is expensive, but not as much as a traffic award I could get from the local speed warden.
I have a Valentine 1. If you are serious, don't even think about price shopping, just get it. The V1 is the best money you will ever spend. I have it mounted on a RAM. There is just no way that you could do better. I am more than half deaf, so hearing the beeping does not matter to me. I have the H.A.R.D. system which I like a bunch. I highly recommend it. If you think a HUD is cool, you will like this. These three things (V1, Ram mount, Hard) have made things so easy for me to ride. Yes, my system is expensive. No argument there. But it works. So think about it, thinking is cheap! |

Re: Radar Detectors
The solo 2 is a great device however watch out in Canada as they have detectors for them. That is how they got mine. They will take the detector and give you a fine.
There is no radar detector made yet that is invisable to what the OPP use. PS Edit: Welcome to the .org PPS Edit: Holy old post Batman Last edited by Kuss929; 05-10-2005 at 12:22 PM. |

Re: Radar Detectors
The police can detect radar detectors with their detector detector, but I think the valentine can detect them with their detector detector detector. So I think it's safe until the police come out with a radar detector detector detector detector. Unless Valentine can come up with a detector detector detector detector jammer. MY brain hurts.

Re: Radar Detectors
well here in Alberta they are legal, not sure which province you're in. I know in Ontario they're outlawed, not sure where else. When the cops are using instant-on laser it's nearly impossible to avoid it even with the best equipment.
I think the V1 is the best, but that's only based on what I've read in Car and Driver. |

Re: Radar Detectors
However the Valentine is a hard wire unit.
If you are pulled over in a non radar detector area and they see the chord or anything they can search your ride and if done by the book can get you unless you threw the unit out a window or something. With the Solo 2 you have no permanent fixings that can get you in trouble. Turning it off when you get a beep will do nothing they will already have you. When I was caught he was not running radar just detecting for detectors. He saw my suction cups and that was all he needed to search my car. He did perform an illegal search on me but I had way bigger fish to worry about that day then my detector being confiscated and a court date. |

Re: Radar Detectors
I got Bel STI. For my R1. It not detectable by RDD. Leos in Ontario pretty serious if they catch you with one. $170 fine plus automaticly speeding ticket. Your insurance may go up too, all depence who you have.
I'm just trying to figure out where to mount my STI on the bike. Thinking use velcro and mount to front of the shield. But detector will be facing down. Not sure what it will do to performance of the detector. The reason i want to mount there so i can take the detector off before i get stoped. If you have detector on you they can not search your body (Ontario). Any sugestions where i can mout the detector so it wont be visable if Leo parks beside me at the light? |

Re: Radar Detectors
I am fighting the issue of where to put my detector as well. I love the Stem Stands by Techmount, but if I ever go with a steering stabilizer, I would have to remove it. There is a mount that legalspeeding.com has that seems like it would work well that looks like it would bolt to one side or the other. I'm going to check my bike tonight and see if I think it will work, and maybe go that route.
Another good refrence for radar detectors and such is radardetector.net I'm on their forum. |
