I have the Garmin III+ and love it. It mounts using the RAM mount and works perfectly on my 929. Can't go wrong with a Garmin, regardless of the model...

Keep in mind that the iQue isn't waterproof like the other models.

It's gonna be interesting trying to fit it on my bike, but I'll do it!
I'll post pics when I get it all hooked up.
Can't wait to get lost, so I can find my way back home.

Yes, I know it's not waterproof. It's a nice toy. I just got it yesterday! Waiting for my mounting hardware and electric hookups now.

Re: GPS Unit suggestions

I personally like the form-factor and durability of these untis.

http://gpsinformation.net/gps5/g5review.htm

A pal of mine wadded his 929 and his GPSIII+ went bouncing down the highway. I found it later in the day and guess what. Not only did it still work the display was totally undamaged (case was scraches to all hell). It took a major beating. He still uses it, it works great! I was impressed by that. I don't think you would go wrong with it but I don't know if they have a color version out for it.

GPS revisited

I have been eyeing up the new Quest from Garmin and am wondering about the memory. I typically cross 2-3 states and round trip of up to 500 miles. Is 128MB enough memory to take this kind of distance? Or another case a trip from AL to lower Mi, is there enough memory for side trips (the main route I can do in my sleep)

Any help from current GPS owners would be greatly appreciated.

It would depend on how many cities, etc there are in a particular area. The software for the Quest is Mapsource Cityselect which has restuarant, hotel, gas station, etc, info. Any city area would have lots of those and eat of more memory.

Whether or not 128 meg is enough is a good question. My 76S has 24 meg which would be completely filled if I picked 2 populated Cali counties with City Select software. The Roads and Rec software I use doesn't have all that info so I'm able to store all of Ca in 24 meg, but it has no addresses, restaurant data, etc.

The Quest looks like a nice unit with the only drawback being it has internal memory and not a removable memory card.

Maybe someone else here with more experience with the City Select software would know if 128 would be sufficient the use you expect.

Thanks for the response but one more question. Can you delete the gas stations and/or eateries etc. ? I really just want roads and routing mainly since I frequently get out on some remote country roads (my other hobby is photographing waterfalls)

Still a hard decision, cities might come into play for cross country but I only need to worry about Huntsville and Chattanooga (or Nashville) usually. However the StreetPilot III seems to be bigger and get bad reviews.

Re: GPS revisited

You can filter out some of the information when displaying maps on Mapsource (on a computer), but I don't think you can filter out that kind of info when selecting areas for transfer to the gps unit.

Re: GPS Unit suggestions

This is odd. Garmin's website lists the Quest as 128 meg, but this website says it's got 254. Wonder if the UK/Europe versions get more memory.

I love this thing!! It's so compact. I've downloaded the detailed maps on it as well as a bunch of music.
But I still haven't mounted it on my bike (haven't been riding streets much).
Oh, but hey, I brought it on a hiking trip last month and we lost our trailhead.
We were able to use it to find out way back - it was great!
