Signal Tripper
Anyone have one of these on their sportbike? I'm getting tired of waiting at two traffic lights in particular down the street from me. I wait... and wait.. and wait.

Re: Signal Tripper
I have a big rare earth magnet that will destroy televisions in the same room. It does nothing for street lights. Call the city engineer to fix it.
The magnetic loop detectors use a sensor module that has a tiny transformer in it that is very similar to the one on your ethernet card. Its small. It pulses an adjustable frequency and sensitivity as not to interfere with adjacent loops. I used to install these. They can be adjusted to be set off by a beer can if you want. But a magnet won't do crap. |

Re: Signal Tripper
I had one on my 84 650 nighthawk and it didn't do squat. The best way to trigger a difficult light is to roll through the trigger lines and brake late at the light, trying to roll PAST the trigger, not stopping on it.
Florida law allows a motorist to run a light ONLY after said light has cycled 3 times. You better be able to prove it to the cop, however, chances are he watched the whole thing and shouldn't pull you over. I have one light that fights me consistantly, and sometimes it just will not budge. I have blown this light right in front of LEO's without an issue. I have also pulled up far enough to allow the vehicle behind me to try to trip the light. It's a pain in the a&&, but when you run into the same light all the time, you have to complain to the correct government office, and they will come out and take care of it.......... eventually. |

Re: Signal Tripper
I once complained about a broken red light to a group of angry truckers at the gas station where there was an aggressive highway patrol crackdown on safety violations nearby.
The next day, all the lights on that section of highway was fixed. I found city police don't care about reporting problems, but the state police investigate any complaint they hear. |

Re: Signal Tripper
NC has a law (not sure when it goes into effect) that after 3 cycles of a light or something like that, a motorcycle can run it. I've pulled to the side a bit a couple times to wave the car behind me up so they could trip it.

I've spent a lot of time at lights trying the kickstand. There were a lot of things I also wanted to kick, but the kickstand never worked for me. |

Re: Signal Tripper
If the sensitivity on the loop is slightly off then the kickstand may work. You are bringing metal closer to the loop and it may be enough to trip it. The ones that are really out of adjustment, it won’t do a thing.
If you are worried about getting pulled over. Write a letter and send it certified mail so that you have proof it was received. Send two or three of them over the course of a few months. I would also have a phone log to prove that I also called the police department. If you get pulled over and the cop still wants to write you a ticket, when it goes to court you bring the proof that the city has yet to fix a nonfunctional traffic light system. If the light goes through one light I would run it if I did the above. |

Re: Signal Tripper
If the kickstand won't work then I imagine attaching something to your riding boots wont trip the sensor either. I've tried the magnets - I installed TWO of them to no avail. The magnets IMO are definitely a dead-end solution to this problem.
