Escort 8500 has worked very well for me. As far as I'm concerned it has paid for itself a few times.

well, install wasn't too bad, there are alot of wires so thats a pain in the ass, but it did come with the W.I.H.D. which is deffinately the ****, only problem is having it inside the helmet pushes my ear buds into my left ear, but it saved me once last night so o well.

Re: whistler cruisader radar detector

ive decided this detector sucks. the led light that i had mountedjust below the rim of my wind screen no longer works and it was basically crap in general for detecting cops, i drive by a gate everyday to get onto base that always sets off my beltronics in my car everytime, and this one doesn't even get go up one level.

Re: whistler cruisader radar detector

Maybe the Beltronics was crap and the Whistler had better false detection circuitry. Was it an actual radar source (da coppers radar gun) or just the tractor trailer scanning device nearby that was setting off the B'tronics detector?

Either way Val1 and Escort8500 are more highly rated than the best Whistler and Beltronics detectors.

no, its an actual detector, because there are these stupid little signs that light up at the check point and say "over speed" depite the fact that there are like 7-8 lanes leading in, so there is no way they can tell who it is.

is it X band? I think X is off by default on many of the newer detectors.

My Bel RX65 pro (w/earphone) should be here tomorrow, thanks for the info on the whistler unit. It does look pretty trick..but, they lost my faith a few years back.

Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about. They have the same at Hood too.

Those operate on X band (old tech = cheap). Check and see if different bands can be turned on and off like SSG alluded to or if the false signal detection settings can be changed. Those signs and the little trailers they put on the side of the road are "always on" units. Maybe the detector is seeing them as false for this reason.
