I bought this as a handheld I could actually take *off* the bike and do something with. With this stupid wandering thing, it's rediculous.

See the attached, this is me mowing a rectangular shaped lawn, in view of (at min) 9 birds the whole time, with ~12-18ft accuracy. No, I don't mix drinking with farm implements either, I like to keep it a little orderly looking
Kinda curious about this....

What's the distance between the farthest two points? What's the distance between the furthest two pts in your lawn?

Is something like this maybe happening?

So, it's tracking with a 12-18 ft accuracy at some specific sampling rate.....say one sample it thinks you're at pt A but the next sample thinks you're at pt B (but within the 12-18 ft accuracy range....add these "errors" up and you could get some pretty good distances traveled even though you haven't moved....

..as it is I have a 1 gig and I'm not even sure I can fill it

Just take yours outside and fire it up, look at the map and record the track...does it move around like mine above?

Thats pretty sure what I believe is occuring...I sat down the other night with the data and figured it out (somewhat). I seriously almost think the SiRF chipset is too sensitive...like the signals are actually reflecting off of other things around the place and the device gets confused as to which really has the proper timecode. Im not sure...but have been digging into this via a "how could a manufacturer release a product that does this?" and assuming its a logical piece that I missed when going to a handheld, but apparently not.

If you leave it be, it will move about on its own.
I should reiterate, if you are moving - the device is just as accurate as my 2720, but after a few minutes of sitting still it starts hunting....

Sooo, you need a GPS to mow your lawn? It's not entirely comparable but my bare bones Etrex hunts too. The accuracy standing still will vary and will have me traveling while standing still according to the odometer. I think it might just be the nature of the beast when not moving. Try walking a known path or road and see what your track looks like. Does it stay on course or wander drunkenly?

my speed changes and I sometimes wander drunkenly.

I posted the lawn path because it was an hour or two of neat patterened movement, yet on screen it shows up lame. That is a bad example. I should post a screenshot of it 'sitting still' to give you an idea.

Couldn't call Garmin today, will tomorrow.

I just replied in the other thread before I saw this

I found out that I don't need to zoom to 20ft all the time, and that pretty much every gps does this if left alone long enough, I believe its just a bit more extreme with the 60 because it listens to so damn much.

All in all, one zoom out and it goes away. It also really only occurs if your standing still for any length of time. Since i dont really care to trend stopped time..I just shut it off. As long as its warm (4 hours or so) it lights right back up in 30 seconds or so.

Im pleased with the unit, just not getting the use I had intended on with it. The dirtbike sits in the shed, and the KLR doesen't move around all that much to require its own gps.
