I actually thought of doing that...but will there be a lot of vibration at that location...

Flash storage - no moving parts.
Seriously though, I think that sold state is the only way to go with this. That said, I am still looking for a solid state storage media for mobile video. Panasonic has their new camera that takes 8gig flash cards, but thats at the high end prosumer level camera. I'd like to know a better option if anyone has one for that.

Good idea...but Archos fits into the budget...dont want to have to go back to film...either way I will make the Archos work...a lot of padding maybe...

I think you're asking too much, the bike just vibrates too much for HDDs to not fail. The best way to minimize vibration maybe is to wear it on yourself, but still....

I've tried MANY times to carry HDDs back and forth on my bike, and they eventually fail everytime. They're just not built to take that amount of knocking about.

You'll have to go solid state, methinks.

yeah a backpack might be your best bet or a tank bag. joe rocket and a few others make an magnetic tank bag.
