Re: Sportscamcorder

Pretty cool. So can the video be downloaded into a PC for editing and burning to a disc? What's MPEG4?

edit: Never mind...just read the specs on the Circuit Shity site.

Re: Sportscamcorder

Connects to the computer and downloads via USB. Plug and play just like your digital camera. No tapes to buy or destroy. Pretty cool even at $600.

Should be able to edit it just like other forms, and I thought I heard the MPEG4 has better information retention and compression. But don't know enough to say for sure.
640x480 isn't bad resolution either (same as 480 lines?)

That coupled with the internal memory is pretty close to 45 min. of video. I wonder how hard it would be to mount the cam to the side/top of a helmet.

Re: Sportscamcorder

Looks like a bloody good product but there doesn't seem to be any specs on the website......so I searched and didn't find much info about how long you get out of a memory stick (30minutes for a 1GB stick apparently in one of the reviews). But the most telling thing was the poor reviews it got so I'll wait from the second generation.

Re: Sportscamcorder

Interesting but if you are thinking bike cam here is the issues as I see them.

Low res (320K pixels) sensor on the remote
No remote on off
Pre-compressed video will be harder to edit
Solid state memory (tapes can record more)
Cannot change lenses

Good:
Image stabilization may be nice
Form factor
Solid state memory (likely more durable)
Overall cost (cheaper if you need a remote and camcorder both)

The web based sample video seems to have nice color balance but given this is chosen to impress I would assume the video is comparable with a standard helmet cam in this regard.

Re: Sportscamcorder

I like the idea of a camera that small. Been looking for one to use with a helmet cam for my mtn biking adventures.

Re: Sportscamcorder

Reading Matt's review link:

Bad:
Sound is a seperate wave file
MPEG4 decoder is proprietary Windoz only (and only their S/W package)
Microphone? not remote
Remote cam has batteries in it (weight) the helmet cams I have seen are powered remotely

and camera cord only 14inches long, don't think it would make it from the boot the be mounted on the front of the bike.

Re: Sportscamcorder

Yeah great idea (ie, remote cam powered by the camera that is storing the footage), but not a good appllication. Just about every review I read about it a little while ago had complaints.

Hopefully some of the other manufacturers will step up and make something similar. Hitachi had something just like this 10 years ago. With one of it's high-8 camcorders.
