Re: Rear Facing Video Setup

i finally got the rear facing mount setup done for my video camera. *thanx to ConqSoft for helping me locate the 'trashed' rear seat i used for the mount.

i removed the cover and foam from the seat and found that there were two parallel flat surfaces on the seat base that allow the camera to sit level with the road with the bike is upright. *by removing the foam and cover, the camera now sits kinda 'down' in the seat base instead of being way up high.

i went to Lowe's and picked up a 2 5/8' quarter inch eye bolt to act as my main mounting point. *it screws into the tripod mounting hole on the bottom of the camera. *i will use a wing nut to the tighten the bolt/camera assembly to the bottom of the seat base. *i also got some 'Gripper's that are designed to be stuck to the bottom of chairs (on hardwood floors) to act and a little bit of cushon and to make the seat base more ... well ... grippie. *two 10' bungee cords and i was done at Lowe's.

i drilled a total of three holes in the base for mounting. *i would like to say that the multiple holes were to allow for multiple mounting positions, BUT the truth is it took three tries to get it right .

i did a test run last weekend and the video is ROCK SOLID, just like on my tank mount. *much better than duct tape, cc . *

Pix are here

i should be able to post a short video clip this weekend and i will be doing lots of taping at VIR on 8/25.

You're pretty crafty, but I don't want to hear you bad-mouthing duct tape again.

Did you decide to do this vs the tank mount so the camera wouldn't be in your way?

duct tape certainly has its uses, but mounting a camera to the back of a bike is NOT one of them. *we learned that at JenningsGP in May.

i really did well at finding my way around the tank mounted camera when were in FL. *my best lap times were with the camera on the bike. *a control rider had suggested that the camera may be in my way (and he was right), but i've learned to get around it.

You think that may be because you were pushing yourself more than you normally would, since it was being recorded?

Re: Rear Facing Video Setup

Nice setup Flasher. Aren't you a little worried if you *gasp* go down? I just put a rear facing mount (Dual-lok tape on top of the rear cowl) for my helmetcam like Tank's setup. Having my camera wrapped in foam inside the trunk eases the anxiety level a little while riding!

I really want to buy a second helmetcam and have both front and rear facing cameras that I can toggle between.

Re: Rear Facing Video Setup

not sure about pushing myself harder because of the taping -- its possible.

red, the camera should survive a crash with no flipage. *i borrow the camera from my dad. *he saw my crash at VIR in may and so far has no problem with me using it again. *i would prefer a helmet camera setup and will likely go to that type of system in the future. *hmmm, i wonder if my dad has any use for a helmet camera???

Bungee cord? Flasher, this is below your normal standards.
