Re: Radar Detector
I am thinking getting a radar myself, thinking of cordless ones (Solo S2 maybe) for convenience although it's not as good as the non cordless ones.
As far as for installation, my friend is very satisfied with StemStand, check www.stemstand.com. He installed his Valentine1 on it on his 03 gixxer 1K, the radar mount is very solid piece and sturdy. Riding on mountain, I just stayed behind him since he got the radar. |

Also, even though I'm a die-hard V1 fan, people have had good luck with the 8500, benefitting from its compact size, and built-in earphone jack. |

Yeah, I think so too, but a flashing LED is no match for the audio output from the V1. Yes, it would require either a cord or cordless audio (hmm, HARD II?), but the audio has almost all the useful info in it. I've tried both ways, and have found that visual cues take far longer to process (especially hunting for, acquiring, and interpreting the V1's display) than the audio signal. Not only do you lose reaction time, you also have to take your eyes off the road, which at the presumed higher speeds, is obviously dangerous. |

Re: Radar Detector
My goal is to get a V1 with the stem stand mount and integrated radar screamer. *The problem is I'd have to dump the Scotts and get a damper that frees up the steering stem hole.

Re: Radar Detector
2H0 different strokes I guess. The HARD system works excellent for me and I'm very used to the V1. If I got a slow pulsing light from the LED and look around and see if a gas station is close and what not. If the LED comes on very strong and very quick pulses I know to slow the bike down immediately, actually at any indication I go ahead and kill the throttle momentarily. In the twisties, if the HARD flashes, I slow down, because I know 90% of the time it's a LEO.
My V1 is setup on a Saeng stand attached to the fairing stay on the 51, I don't even have to look down in most cases, I can see it easily, just roll my eyes. And I like to use earplugs when riding, don't want to be deaf when I'm on old man so the audio alert is not an option for me. I think the HARD system works awesome, not 1 ticket since I bought it. |

Tried it (then had it stolen). Wouldn't buy it again unless they fixed some of its shortcomings. The good: - no extra cords to hook up to (ie earphones) - fairly small - works up to speeds of about 75mph (Arai helmet) The bad: - it still requires the remote audio adapter ($45?) - it's not loud enough above 75mph - for whatever reason, it wasn't very water resistant, and when left out in the rain, it wouldn't work The ugly: - everyone around you in city traffic can hear it all too well; yes, it has a switch, but it got old real quick flipping that thing - it's a dumb siren, which means that all audio coming out of it is the same, that is, no difference between the bands, bogeys, etc -------- Right now, when I ride, I have to make two connections: one to power from the bike (V1 telephone jack), and one to the headphone jack sticking out of my tank bag (which Y's the V1 with the iPod). The earphone cord is long enough that I can pump gas, and access the trunk without having to unplug it; even so, it takes two seconds each time, which is just a small part of the gear-up ritual for every ride. |

Re: Radar Detector
V1 on brake res. bracket, remote display and HARD LED. *Have used the audio adapter in the past tied into a helmet communicator but prefer the wireless LED. *You loose the different audio signals for each band, etc but I didn't like the helmet tether. *Wireless is much easier. *Hop on/off the bike without having to mess with any cords is worth it. *With the remote display you don't loose any of V1's features (direction, etc). *Audio adapter doesn't give you the direction anyway so you still need to be able to see the display.
Saved me dozens of times over the last 6 years (V1 not on the bike except for 2 years). *Upgraded it to the lastest V1 last year too. *Worth every penny. |
