Kidding aside bubba, it is nice indeed to have an "analog" fuel gauge, especially on a tourer.

My bike has both a gauge and a low fuel warning light as a redundant feature. A clock and twin trip odometers which automatically figure your gas mileage as well...it's a pretty decent setup for trips.

Re: GPS question - can you fudge the numbers?

Being in the satellite tracking game ... its called 'spam positioning' (like in junk(mail)).
1) Calculation was done on less than 3 birds hense the fault factor (old selective availability) is larger than normal, or,
2) Bird started moving for some reason (like being relocated to Iraq), and it did not "broadcast" its "I'm moving, ignore me please" signal when the reading (its timecode) was used to calculate.
So I've been tought. Hope it helps!

Can't always count on those. Heck, my mileage varies wildly depending on what sort of riding I'm doing and if, for instance, I'm way up in the moutains v. slabbing along the plains.

Agreed that it varies, but if you know your bike and how you're riding (riding like you're taking an MSF refresher course - right?) then you'll know about when you're gonna need fuel.

Where was this guy during his run?

Down here in OZ the satellite coverage is pretty sparse and they are quite low in the sky so you can get quite a bit of error. A stationary object can actually have pretty wild fluctuations in GPS co-ords. But that could well be a problem to varying degrees in other locations as well.

Beautiful stretch or road! Makes one contemplate illegal things like speeding!

yeah we don't need that crap (my 86 ninja had a fuel guage and it was kinda nice though but I actually don't miss having one). the bus drivers at Umass that I worked with on martha's vineyard were like "you guys have fuel guages?" they had the same model buses but I guess the shitty city of brockton sprung for the upgrade package which included 3 more guages, fuel being one of them. and not only did they not have plugs they didn't know what they were for (bastards kept their buses in a heated garage)

but I don't need a fuel guage, the one in my car has never worked right. it used to go about 120 miles before moving off of full then drop pretty quick now it just stay on more than full all the time. I estimate conservatively on both my bike and car, I fill both at around 120miles.

Check out Labusas.org and see what kind of top speeds these guys have. Some are pushing 500 HP with their bikes, a few have top speed records over 200 MPH, and I think some have been 230+ mph!!!

I lurk there on occasion, but most of the content on the three big busa boards sucks IMO. Too many squids, too many posers running lowered and stretched bikes on the street, too much chrome...

...and not enough guys who appreciate just how great an all around open class GT machine the Hayabusa is.

A big day for the average LABUSAS member is a 50 mile Friday night between parking lots; a big day for me was a 9 hour non-stop (but for fuel) blast from Omaha to Estes Park, 600 miles, this past September.

No doubt. I'm all about sport touring the days brotha. I just can't help myself sometimes though. Obliterating the back tire and not having to use the front brake in doing so is too much fun.

Only once in awhile though, then it's back to my normal self acourse!

Whoot! You go Bob!

That's gotta be the best part about having moved from Omaha, huh? Riding in December (nice mileage my brotha!).

My busa's been on stands for a month.
