Also for measuring speed it is obviously measures the time between 2 points, How far apart are these points and and how many times per second or minute does it send and receive signals? just wondering what distance would you have to cover at a certain speed to get an accurate reading?

I havnt really had anything to do with GPS before and if I got one would just be using it if I did a high speed run and was just wondering if the unit has to be mounted somewhere externally on the bike to be able to transmit and receive its signal or will it work just as well if you put it in the trunk?
Not an expert here but I do know that they will work (sometimes) inside buildings...depends on how much metal you're surrounded by. I'd imagine that it would work well in a tank bag or in the trunk.

The antenna needs to be out in the open.

Once it gets a lock on at least 3 satellites (when you turn it on), it is accurate all the time, in real-time. No certain distance to cover.

Keith, does the 176 have the auto-routing feature similar to the GPS V Deluxe?

Nope. You'd have to go up to the StreetPilot III if you want auto-routing AND a larger/color screen AND expandable memory.

If the V had support for expandable memory, I may have went with it instead. But 19megs just doesn't cut it.

How far will 19megs get ya? A rough guess....? Would that have worked to get me down to Jennings, say?

How are the black/white screens...easy to read at a glance compared to the color?

Nope, probably wouldn't have gotten you all the way. *MAYBE, if you could just grab those small sections RIGHT around the route that you were going to take...

I have a 64meg card in mine and I can get the whole state of NC, and a couple of counties deep into the surrounding states.

Screens: They are both about the same to me. In bright sunlight my color screen 'washes out' and looks just like the black/white screen. But without direct sunlight, and at night, the color looks cool.
