Valentine 1 radar detector

OK, thinking of purchasing this toy. Just wondering how many of you members have it, have had experience with other detectors in order to compare, and pros and cons you may have to offer. (No offense booth, I know you are sold on this product, and we have been emailing regarding it, just want varied opinions). My last (now dead) detector was an Escort Solo 5: cordless, which I love; cordless = less sensitivity I would imagine. Soooo, lay it on me, please...

It paid for itself the very first year. It is generally regarded as the best performing of the bunch and therefore costs more. I'm sure the next cheaper product from another manufacturer is also a decent performer but you have to ask yourself: If you can afford the difference, why not just get the best one out there?

Another consideration for me is the fact the V1 can be perpetually kept up to date by sending it back to the manufacturer for upgrades. I hate having a pile of hardware collecting dust in my house because it's "obsolete". So in the long run, you may SAVE money by going with the V1.

EDIT: grammar

I've had mine for 3 years. I'd be in jail, without it.

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

Get a Piezo Screamer for it. That way you and the other bikes riding with you can hear it. A buddy of mine has one on his passport and even at 70ish or so I could hear it a few bike lengths back.

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

I have one as well. It is pricey, but I've never been disappointed with it. The only time I ever got a speeding ticket was the ONE time I did not have it in the car with me.

I use the RAM mounts and the H.A.R.D. system on the bike. All I can say is just do it!

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

I've been using mine for a few years now. I finally got it mounted on the bike this weekend. Using a RAM mount that works with the Ohlins damper. Just ordered the remote display and remote audio adapter. Anyone have pictures of a good place to mount the remote display on a 954? I've seen EatnAsphalt's setup on the 929; but, it doesn't look like I'd have room above the gauges for mine.

I just checked out the RAM mount site, Which kit did you get? and where did you mount it? at the moment I'm trying to make a mount that hangs from the left hand mirror mount under the screen but it's starting to give me the shits big time, I'm ready to just go out and buy something that works, if you've got any pictures of the RAM mounts in action I'd be very keen to take a look.

thanks

Ben.

I've never had much luck w/radar detectors. Usually by the time they alert, it's too late. They're totally worthless against LASER also. I hope your's works out for ya.

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

I have a K40 front/rear undectable in my car and a V1 in the wife's. Both seem to perform well, The V1 has a better display IMO, I have one I've taken apart and been toying with the idea of making it a heads up display inside my tinted screen. I've done a few cars with it etched into the rear view mirror, but that's not practical on a bike.

K40 piezo's are DC, I've done them inside a helmet with an 1/8" jack before also. The receiver mounts remotely, so you can put it above the radiator or inside the lower and not have to see it either. Just mount LED's in the cluster.

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

Not sure how popular LIDAR is in your area but after doing some reading that detector won't help me up here in the north where LIDAR is pretty much the norm.

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

I have found that the cheapest way to avoid tickets is to just go the speed limit (or within 5-9mph at least).

That is very true!! Or follow someone closely who is going over the limit.

That's what I do...or try to anyway....because radar detectors are illegal here.

I certainly realize that no detector will help you with "instant on" radar. But I had my other two for so long that a detector is like a necessary appendage now . They have at least saved me a couple of tickets/warnings over the years when someone a half mile or so up the road got hit first .

That is what I usually do, exactly - 5-9 mph over. However, I don't adhere to that rule all of the time, and especially on the blade .
