thanks

Ben.
I ordered the RAM from here Cycoactive.

Here's what I got:
grab11 (L) - Mirror Mount
gcep13 (T1) - 13mm expansion plug kit used with mirror mount to attach to steering stem
graSa (I) - Short Arm
gra2X6 (F) 2X6 Flat Base (would get the 2.5 round base (A) if I did it over)

Mount from Top
Mount from Side
Mount with Detector
View from Seat

In the picture, I have the short arm vertical. You can put the arm horizontal to lower the detector out of sight of the speedo. It makes it harder to see; but, I'm going to mount up a remote display next to the speedo somewhere.

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

thanks for the pics Northy

One more question,
How do you guys fix the detector to the mounting plate? I'm assuming you take the detector between your bike and car?

Cheers,

Ben.

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

I've gotten a lot of good ideas from folks that led me to my V1 setup. I think it works great for me, but there is something missing that I don't have pics about.

I am nearly deaf, so I cannot and do not rely upon hearing for radar detection warning. So, a very valuable part of my system is the H.A.R.D. system.

It works, and I highly recommend it. Aaron Zimmerman is a great guy, honest and goes 110% with customer service. In my case, I bought the previous version and had it six months. He calls me and tells me if I meet him at the MPLS Cycle World Motorcycle show last year, he'll upgrade me to the latest version FREE! I ask you, how many vendors do you know that would do that? I'm about to order another one for my other helmet.

Here is my system:

The base mount is a Saeng secured platform

There is Velcro (tm) hook material on the top of the mount. I stuck the fuzz material on the bottom of the V1.
The mount http://www.saeng.com/2500.htm is near the bottom, all the way on the right on this page.

I placed a RAM grabal2 (B) into the base of the Saeng platform.

I used a grab9 (M) attached to the top triple clamp with the Honda factory bolt. (It's long enough!)

Shows the completed assembly with the graSa (I) short arm.

There's enough flexibility to move it around for optimum visibility of the Honda instrument panel.

This setup works great for me! I have the V1 hardwired to the battery. Since I bought the remote display for my car and never used it, I velcroed it to my windscreen.

The angle of the screen makes it really easy to quick glance at the display to see the arrows indicating where the radar signal is coming from, but it is really not necessary to get for your setup.

NB: Anyone who read this post in the wee hours of the morning, please reread. I've edited to correct some misinformation about parts.

I move mine between my two vehicles and the bike.

I'm currently using velcro; but, I like the mount shown above with the loop to secure it.

I won't comment here for reason of balance in my current state of speeding karma - but if I were going to buy another Radar Detector it would be a V1.

In agreement with Conq. on this one, if you don't speed they'll never catch you

Northy, I just blew my Pepsi through my nose onto the monitor! Hehehe, I'm still laughing!

Okay, I'll let you into the joke. That loop is a Big Arse Rubber Band. Between the Velcro and the BARB, there is no way the V1 is going anywhere. Now, just take a WAG as to what my wife's name is.

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

Well, it's been nice knowing you guys. Wifey saw this thread, and I am now known around this house as...dead meat.

I do have a plan though,...

I'll let you know if it works. Better yet, if you ever see a future post from me you can assume it worked. Something about diamonds are a girl's best friend.

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

I mounted my V1 directly to the windscreen by bolting the suction cup mount (removed the suction cups) to it. Works great for me...

Re: Valentine 1 radar detector

BTW, I received the V1 last Friday. It is the tits! Very well done . This thing gives sooo much more info than my old Solo 5. It has already saved me one potential ticket, although I was only going 8 mph over before the alert. Valentine (and other mfrs.) stress the importance of mounting high (but not too high) on the windshield or visor. I just can't stand having a friggin' cord hanging over the bottom 2/3 of the windshield and don't feel like routing a long cord, so I mounted it via velcro on the dash, like the old one. I have a Tacoma with a camper shell and it still picks up side and rear bogeys as well as when I had it mounted higher for one day

Can you post a pic of this? Did you really drill holes in the windscreen?
